Hello ladies
Im back to ask a question i hope it was not asked already. I did srarch but didnt see it. So i need to get my weight down i know that would help, but until thwn what dvd is the best for working your legs and butt without hurting the knees? I am not full blown hurt but both patellas , the knee caps are starting to feel strange. Like im gonna have a blow out so i have not done any lower body because im afraid to put more weight on them while lunging and etc. i need to strengthen the muscles around the knees to. Does anyone have a suggestion to get a good workout on lower body That helps with all issues i just mentioned? Tall order i know. I think sometimes i may can do all dvd but no weights but then i wonder would i be doing good or wasting my time?

You might want to see a physical therapist and also get some xrays done to make sure that you are doing the right work. I wouldn't want to recommend anything because I'm not a PT. I did find that off road hiking was helpful. It did strengthen my legs, especially around the knee and ankle.

Thanks .. I had xrays a while back i have osteo arthritis but i o.ly had one knee then. Now its two. So today i tried high reps total body kept the weights light and i still gkt a good workout wo knees hurtinv. So i tni.k just go no weight or light weight and hiking..id love that!

I have similar problems and what helped me, though it was a slow process, was a combo of a few things....

--incline walking on the treadmill
--Turbo Barre
--Gym Style legs

For any leg work I always skip any tall box work and substitute reverse or stationary lunges for forward lunges. I also use fairly low weight. Cathe's Afterburn and Athletic Training regularly in the rotation also helped, however I substitute or omit the gliding disc work b/c I just feel these put too much strain on my knees.

Wow thanks. I can see y this would help. I will be doing turbo barre more. And walking up hills. I dont have a tread mill.

Cathe does a forward lunge on the step in the new XTrain Cardio Leg blast and that takes pressure off the knees, but I will echo what RapidBreath said.... go see a PT!!! It is really in your best interest. :)

martijean is right, fish oil is great for joints and has many other health benefits. Oh, and it's good for fat loss.;)
This is what I take and give my dogs for joint health :)-

Hi ladies thank you for taking time to answer. I take fish oil and glucosiin lol spelling.
Like i mentioned, i have been to aa doctor already. I have osteo arthritis in my knees and arthritis iin my hands elbows. Back.,, but my doctor loves to give me pills but i wont take them. Im going to a new doctor after feb. Tax on our home is due plus ins plus we may end up paying some taxes this season right now so do not have money to go til feb. But since the xtrain i did cardio leg blast and legs. I do have to watch what im doing ut since this is lighter weights n no barbell, so far so good!

Physical therapy is a yes! It will help to train for joint stability. I have similar knee issues, but the problem was actually caused by my feet. I have severe pronation, which caused the knee joint to come together at an odd angle. It does help to have my mother-of-all orthotics and decent shoes. Maybe have your feet checked as well to be sure when you come down on them they are in alignment and properly supported. One thing that I think is also helping me is tough power yoga, oddly. The stabilizer muscles really get strengthened from that, with all of the balance and isometric work. Romanian Deadlifts are a good compound lift that won't hurt your knees, anterior lunges also. I find that if I lunge forward onto a step, instead of to the floor, it gives my Glutes a great burn, but doesn't hurt the knees. The cable, or band hip abductors are good. Also leg extensions using only the top of the range of motion. Leg curls are fine (hamstrings). Hope that helps. Knee issues are not fun. ( on plyo or intense leg days, I do wear a brace).

Thanks all this is very interesting. I,will see a pt soon. I am due for my physical soon to.
But ill brake down all my problems i have been dealing with because its right on the money about the feet.
I have osteopena, but since doing cathe, bone density last yr was better!
But i have scoliosis in three areas in my back but there small and in places that even it out so if u look at me u cant tell.
I had hammer toes and bone spurs under my toes so they broke my big toes and reset them, then took bone out on the pinky toe side to cut out the bunion. Ever since then i have had balance issues when i do static lunges,
i have degenerative disk disease in my lower back,
arthitis in my upper portion. I have always been active in high school i played basketball and lifted weights i was chunky i was 160 pounds 5foot tall i had my boys 170 but it was AFTER i had my boys i decided, i wanted to be healthy so i got serious and lost 70 ponds 103 i was finaly thin, and i exercised and looked nice oh by then i was 5 feet 1 and a half lol.
But anyhow i have kept that weight off till fives yrs ago. Stress and taking care of sick aunt who died, then my step dad, then for two yrs my mother, so i gained 40 pounds back. I have been exercising now again 1 yr. Havnt lost anything but things are shifting. My bp is 112/70 my heart rate is low.. I have almost reversed my bone loss.
I have to keep going, i wont give up. I think alot of people out there are missing a leg and still trying
And i have all my parts so far so i have no excuses. I just need to get my eating right, im working on finding what works for me now. But i think all of u are correct, problems in back can come from freet or feet problems can come from the back. It is a matter of listening to the body and you guys are so awesome to help and talk about what u know, and what works for you. I appriciate all the, advice. Soooo when i get to my physical im going to talk to them. But im going to find a different doctor. Mine keeps wanting to give pills for everything. I want to do it naturaly first then if i need to, ill go ahead take the pill. Thanks everyone!
