Women's Health Reminder

Happy New Year ladies!! Start spreading the news… January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Do I know how to party and ring in the New Year or what??? HEHEHE! :7

Seriously, please, please, please be sure you are current on your paps. The following links provide the CURRENT pap screening guidelines in the US (please review to be sure your health care provider is up-to-date… unfortunately a few are stuck in the past):

If you or someone you know would be interested, the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides breast and cervical screening to low-income, uninsured women. For more information visit

http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nbccedp/contacts.htm
Women also may access free or low-cost breast and cervical screening through state and federal programs, please check with the local health department, family planning clinic, rural health clinic, etc.

Take care ladies!!!!!!

Thats a FANTASTIC reminder Autumn

I have 2 daughters of the appropriate age for paps and I "always" remind them, the same as "self breast exam"

My Grandmother died from Cervical Cancer, my mother was diagnosed with Breast cancer (in remission thank god) but the Cervical cancer got me. I was diagonised with C3 a few years ago (Im in remission as well)

SO! this subject is VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART

Thank you

Marion
:)

Marion,

I am THANKFUL and very happy you AND your mother are in remission!!!!!! That is a blessing!

Sorry you lost your grandmother to cervical cancer! I sometimes nag my family, friends, and clients about screening. I try to approach health education with the attitude that I am simply providing the information to allow a woman to make an informed choice, but they don't always. I told my best friend (a nurse mind you) that I was going to bring my speculum and pap collection supplies next time I visit... maybe she would be more comfortable there. :) I am almost serious.

Anyway, keeping women healthy is my one of my passions in life. I get so frustrated with health care providers that don't provide appropriate care... I can't tell you the number of ladies who have had hysterectomies and NO annual pelvic exams... the doctor never told them they needed pelvics. I can go on and on.

Take care! And stay healthy!

Autumn

Thank you Autumn

Your "passion" could save lives so bravo to you.

I know that breast cancer has a "gene" link, but Im not sure about cervical cancer! The doctor told me back then that it was more a case of bad luck with me and my Grandmother. For my daughters sake I hope so because the breast cancer "gene" is enough to deal with.

Thanks again for your blessing.

Marion

Thanks for the reminder Autumn. I have had mine scheduled for a whole year! Due this month! Never miss my paps. Marion, good for you for staying on top of it. Glad you are in remission.

Autumn:

thanks for caring so much about all women and for reminding us to take care of ourselves. You are a treasure, I always said so!

Clare (never miss an annual pap);-)

Thanks, Autumn! Today's my annual physical which means a cervix check, yee ha! It also means the breast smoosh is coming soon, yippee yi yay! But seriously, it's so important to make sure everything is in good working order and I appreciate your taking the time to get that info out there!

I am happy to see over 200 views... great!! Ok, ladies you stay compliant with your paps or I'm comin' to your house. :7

Marion, based on current evidence, there is no cervical cancer “gene”, however, researchers are taking a closer look at inherited factors that affect the immune system. HPV is the cause in more than 95% of cervical cancers… and it is a sneaky virus.

Debbie, keep that appointment. :)

Clare, you are always to kind to me. Thank you! Keep up the compliance with the paps. :) Thanks for the bump.

Bobbi, you crack me up! I hope you didn't let out a "yee haw" during the pap.

Take care everyone! I'll be back next year with a reminder. :)
