Women at the gym

I just got back from the gym and can't believe how many women are inadequately...um....supported.

The new thing seems to be these racer-back tanks that must have some kind of built in "shelf bra". The smaller-chested women wear them thinking they can get away with it, but there's WAY too much bouncing. It hurt just to watch them.

Then there's these other larger-chested women who wear 2 layers of sports top, but somehow their chests are still hanging down to their waists.

Have good, solid sports bras gone out of fashion?

i think good sports bras are just too hard to find. I am one of those that wear two sports bras just so I WONT be bouncing around. have never found one that fits right AND has good support.

If you examine the pages of any Fitness Magazine, particularly Oxygen, you will see that the current fashion is to have your breasts literally hanging out of your sports top/bra, that your sports bra/top not be used for support but as a showcase for your breasts.

Support doesn't seem to enter into it, only sexuality and exhibitionism.

I agree Clare!! And, as a grumpy add-on, I will say that these "unsupported" women also tend to be the ones lying all over the equipment, doing ten or so quick reps, then chatting with their friends for five minutes before they do another pointless set, holding up the rest of us who actually want to get a workout in. Makes me crabby.

great thanks! I have tried on MANY sports bras and even the ones that are the same brands all seem to fit diff. I do alot of high intensity step aerobics so I def need the support. Right now I currently have all speedo bras cuz they were the only one that worked for me but they have just discontinued their regular bras. Everytime I find something that works, it gets discontinued...and that goes for everything, not just bras x(

I wear Champion sports bras that fit well and provide a good amount of support. But I'm large breasted, and no matter what, I'm still going to bounce at least some. It doesn't hurt, but I bounce. *shrug* I'm not willing to workout in an underwire (it hurts!), and too much compression and tightness makes me feel like I can't breathe and I can't move.

Bunbun, some amount of bounce is unavoidable I think. But the amount I saw today seemed excessive and downright harmful.

I can imagine! I've been to some gyms that are just a big fashion show. The one I belong to now is half gym/half family center, so it's really low-key.

I am glad you open this topic, because this weekend I went to Target looking for a champion sport Bra, trying here and there I got so fustrated, I just dont like my boops bouncing when working out, period, so here I was in the fitting room jumping to see how supportive they were, till I was about to give up and in the regular bra section I saw these sport bras from Hanes, 2 for 8 dollars, hmmm I thought, let me see if they work? who knows? well well well, they passed the jumping test, so I got them and use them right away as soon as I got home, now is the only thing I am using since last Friday!

The older I get the more I love me.

I am also wearing the Target 2-packs by Hanes. Racer back style, black or white (I got a 2 pack of each) and they work great. They are even comfortable at work, and no more bra strap falldown.

The title 9 Catalogue has an excellent collection of sports bras for all sizes, shapes and activities. You might check them out online and browse.

I wear tops w/shelf bras. I'm definitely small & I don't feel like I need additional support.

What I'm always surprised at is the amount of skin so many women show. I wear snug fitting clothes but I very rarely wear an actual sports bra--it's a long bra top pretty much 99% of the time for me. It's the women who wear those little sports bras with low rise 2 inch shorts that shock me. And of course most of the time it's the women who have no business wearing something so skimpy. Why don't they just come to the gym in their underwear? They'd probably have more coverage.

OK that's my cattiness for the day. }(

Recently, I have not found a good supportive sports bra. Bouncing breasts distracts me from the workout, so I use my old nursing bras. They hold them in nicely.
