Windsor Pilates

Just a quick question. Has anyone out there tried the Windsor Pilates series of tapes. I want to incorporate something a little less strenuous into my routines. Tried yoga and kind of liked it but not enough to continue. I did get one pilates tape, just a beginner tape and enjoyed doing that one.

Thanks for your input!

I saw the info-mercial on this and was SO tempted to order, but sanity won out. It looks like it's well produced and instructed. But four (or was is it 6?) tapes would be overkill for me.

For those of you who have them: Is there one workout that includes more intense core work, and would be classified as "advanced" level?

Thanks,
Julie

Hey, Cybersis,

I tried Karen Voight's Yogasculpt yesterday, and that maybe something you'd be interested in. She has 25 minutes of easy, non-mystical yoga and then 20 minutes of pilates core work after that. I picked up the DVD for $12.99 at Sam's Club AND she also included a whole second workout on it. It was Core Essentials, an all Pilates workout. What a bargain. She chaptered out beautifully, so you can mix and match. :)

Just my two cents.

I have tried most of the pilates tapes out there...I think if you are looking for a real no nonsense, int to advanced pilats workout, you've got to try Stott Intermediate matwork. Another excellent pilates style routine is karen Voight's body reform pilates...I don't know the exact name of the tape, I"ve got the DVD and it has 2 workouts on it. The one for abs and back is not strictly pilates but boy, did I feel it in my upper back and lower abs the next day. Also, Karen gives form pointers that are really really good.

Ana Caban Intermediate matwork is also quite good, and it is pretty much standard pilates. I have the Winsor set and find it is good because you go through the exercises very slowly, which in pilates makes them harder. But I don't know if it's really worth the cash.

Just ordered it!

I fell for it! I started watching the informercial and decided to give it a try. There was a review on videofitness.com saying it was good. There's a 30-day guarantee (less $6.95 s&h) so I'll give it a go and let you guys know how it is.

PS- If only I could stop watching those Firm infomercials!

Winsor Pilates

LAST EDITED ON Sep-16-02 AT 04:41PM (Est)[p]I think Mari Winsor is great. I have a lot of the Stott Pilates tapes and while she(Stott) is fantastic, her mannerisms are a little distracting to me. (inhale...exhale...)
I have the original 3 tapes and the 4 advanced tapes. I usually put Winsor in at the end of a weight workout because they are an awesome stretch and are only around 25 minutes long.

I received these tapes from the infomercial. It includes 3 tapes:
1. intro tape- shows you the basic 7 moves. Helpful if you don't know the pilates moves and about your powerhouse.

2. 20-minute tape- not that tough. You go through the moves, but don't do many reps at all. I didn't feel like I was doing much.

3. Advanced tape- I think this is an hour-long. I did most of it. You go from move to move- some work your abs well, some I just thought were weird and a waste of time (I could just be doing them wrong).

Overall, I learned some good pilates moves for the abs, but will return the set. It's too ezpensive if you're not into it. I can't see myself doing the tapes when half of it is boring and I could "feel the burn" in half the time. Mari Windsor is a good teacher, although she doesn't remind you when you should breathe. I don't think this is for me.
