I've been watching these commercials. Anyone try these workouts, and if so what do you think about them.

I've seen a couple and I am still trying to figure out how it's different than doing a video for exercise. There must be some amazing cyber action going on. My favorite part of the wii is saying Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Janie,

I don't think they qualify as workouts at all. I view them more as active fun. My favorites are the balance activities: ski jump and slalom, soccer (you have to head the ball), and a ball game where you have to roll a ball into a hole on a platform.

I think if anyone buys this with the intention of getting a serious workout, she'll be disappointed. The pacing of the instruction for each exercise is quite slow, and you're just not doing any activity long enough or with enough intensity to break a sweat. Still, I do think it's fun. And the more you do it, the more you get to unlock new games.

alot of focus is on balance. in fact how well you balace(esp during balance games and yoga poses) the better your score. as already said its active fun and its helping learn a bit about my balance. as for actual working out the only thing that would qualify is the running but that gets old b/c you are running to nowhere LOL. but its a nice game to have and its suppose to help my daughter who has balance issues b/c of her sensory processing disorder and autism.

Do you think it might be possible in the near future to do an actual workout with this technology?

Kassia, your daughter is sooooooo cute!

Thanks for your inputs everyone, its well appreciated.

Funny you should ask this question lol as today I had my 1st time on my DD's Wii Fit

It is fun! I did push ups, planks, jackknives for abs, some very basic yoga poses etc.

It starts out very basic and as you go along the game opens up more options to workout to.

I don't think it will take the place of a Cathe or gym workout but for a rest day or for just hanging around at home to play is good.

All the teens in my area have been talking tons about this thing and for once it got my son who is on the HS Track Team off his XBOX 360 and he run with this thing and did some strength workouts.

It actually makes exercise for these kids fun as they are games but do work the body :)

After all this time I have been encouraging my oldest DD who does use Cathe sporadically and my son who wants to build strength I give him my old weights Now they actually look forward to exercising.
Go figure!

I know I will be using it as much as the kids do ... it's good family fun :)

janie, its so adorable when they are sleeping LOL. for the strength moves on the game it came with i can see some use but with only so many options for yoga poses and strength exercises it could not only get repetetive and boring but uneffective too. the rumor mill is they are developing more games for this and one will be from one of the biggest loser trainers?the push ups are a bit hard b/c it push ups planks and the more you do them the more reps you unlocked as well so there is a chance of moving up but like i said its just not many options to make an actual workout. i like to use it as part of it but not a replacement to my dvds. but if you ever do get it,the boxing is fun on Wii Sports and on Wii Fit. the wii fit version is called rhythm boxing and its a little hard to follow when you get to advanced while the Wii Sports(the one that comes with the console) is a real cardio type thing.
