I am full of questions lately...sorry to be a pest with them...but I am wondering what is the reason that Cathe DVDs aren't sold in stores? Just curious...as always!

Cathe's never really marketed herself the way other fitness gurus do. But, I think she has some kind of a deal w/Target--I don't know if they sell all of her workouts but I know they sell some of the beginner DVDs. I believe one is included w/the purchase of a step from Target.

I have seen the beginner DVDs at Target. I was just wondering if there was a specific reason why all of her DVDs aren't available for purchase in stores.

Perhaps there isn't one specific reason, just the business model of preference.

Whether they are in stores or not, I will still buy them with reckless abandon!!! }(

If the DVDs were in the store, wouldn't the price go up because of an additional "middle man" (Target or Walmart, for example). Because wouldn't the store want their cut too for stocking the workouts?

Ok another question- How did everyone find out about her because some of her early dvds are before the internet was mainstream.

There are several reasons why you don't see our DVD's in stores, but some of the main ones are:

#1 Fitness DVD's are still mainly regarded as an impulse buy in the retail industry. That means in order to be successful the price must be low and the DVD must appeal to a large as possible population. Usually, this means the DVD must be priced many times lower than what we sell them for online and should usually be skewed toward the beginner/intermediate market. Drastically reducing our prices by selling in stores could severely hurt or even destroy our online business. I know most consumers think that when they see a DVD in a store that the artist has hit the big time. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case and brings us to the next reason you don’t see our DVD’s in stores.

#2 It has been said that the entertainment and recording industry invented double bookkeeping. The landscape is littered with artist that have sold millions of DVD’s in stores and never received hardly a penny for their work. Sadly, this is the rule and not the exception. We have always been very skeptical of any and all retail distribution deals. This may be road we pursue someday, but only if we’re 100% sure that we will be financially rewarded and that we will maintain absolute and complete control of our productions and DVD content.

Thank you SNM for the thorough and adequate answer to my question. I appreciate the feedback. All of the reasons mentioned make perfect business sense!
