why is my middle growing?

hi everyone... i am very puzzled by what i have noticed as a recent redistribution of my weight. even though i have not altered my workout or eating habits and my weight has not changed, it seems that my waist is now much bigger & there's more fat on my tummy. ??? is this simply something that happens as we get older? i am 27 (not claiming to be ancient by any stretch), but i thought this might just be a natural thing. any similar experiences or possible explanations? thanks!

You might be plateauing. Your body might have become so accustomed to your workout, that it's just ambling along. At twenty-seven, you are too young for "middle-aged spread" so I would just make a few changes. You might add intensity or more strength training. It really depends on what your current workouts are and take a good look at your diet. Mix that up too. Record what you eat for a week or two to see if there might be a sabotuer food in your diet and hang in there. We all go through slumps and bumps. They come and go but keeping it all in perspective and being self-aware goes along way toward maintaining a steady weight and staying slim as you age. If you plump up a bit at forty and beyond, that's one thing, but at your young age, it's probably something more simple and definitely easily overcome!

You might also have your thyroid checked. Some thyroid disorders cause fat to be redistributed to your middle.

Check your stress levels too. Stress produces cortisol which encourages fat deposits around the middle and I hate to say it, but it is not the harbinger of good news if this is the case. Are you naturally more of an apple than a pear? If so, stress reduction techniques are important for your fitness program.

ha ha... definitely no baby in here! :)

well if stress really does increase fat deposits around the middle, that could be my answer. i just had a wedding in may, two weeks after finishing my toughest semester yet of b-school! perhaps the last-minute planning rush combined with final exams had something to do with it?

now the question is, how do i get rid of it? increase cardio? change my diet? it has just been strange for me since i've always tended to gain in the butt & thigh area.
