I got thigh stretch marks during puberty and belly marks with pregnancy (had big babies and extra fluid both times--hard to avoid some stretching there) but they all faded to very pale, not too noticeable marks (I'm pale all over so that helps). I used special creams once in a while, but not consistently. I don't show skin that often, since I'm still trying to lose some weight anyway. I do think a lot of it is genetics--the women in my family all have similar stretch marks (though my mom's are slightly worse than everyone else's).
