Who subscribes to XM Radio and owns a satellite radio/receiver?

I would love to go with a radio ( or do they call them receivers?) and I am so confused over the whole thing. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I am set to get an online 3 day trial and would love to hear one of Oprah and Freinds shows, but I think it may be extra charge for it. Can this be? Help!!!! deb

RE: Who subscribes to XM Radio and owns a satellite rad...

I don't know about Oprah...but I have XM in my car and I will NEVER go back to regular radio!!:) I rarely, if ever, listen to CDs in my car anymore...there is just no need. There is always something I like on some station or another on XM and the variety is amazing! XM has just started having commercials on some of their stations, but it is not at all like regular radio...only some stations have commercials at all...and they ones that do do not run the commercials all at one time. I don't listen to talk radio, but I'm sure there will be something on that you will like. Good luck in your 3 day trial...and I'm sure you will like the service:) !

Thank you both for replying! We are musicians here and know that the musically variety would really be great, however, I was wondering about other shows like Operah and Friends "talk" radio programs....do you know anything about this? thanks~deb:)

I was not impressed AT ALL with the Oprah station. But that's just me. I'm sure glad I did not subscribe just for her station.

We love XM radio! I've never listened to Oprah but I don't think there's an extra charge for it. Once you pay the subscription fee you can listen to anything you want. I've never heard of an extra fee for certain programs.

I have XM, and so does my DH (so do my mom & dad!). We all love it. There is no extra charge for certain channels -- it's not like cable TV.

There are talk radio shows, old-time radio shows, comedy channels, weather, TONS of music -- anything you like. 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, Frank's Place (love that one), all styles of music. More than you can imagine. Everything.

And you can listen to your normal radio/local stations anytime you want, too.

It's so worth the money. Do it, you'll love it.

I love XM radio. I have it in my car and also at home. We bought a subscription for my mom and dad and they love it. I live in a small town and the local radio stations are terrible. It's nice to have so many options. I have listened to the Oprah station a couple of times and the only complaint that I have is that they seem to replay a lot of their programming. Get it, you won't be sorry.

Thank you all for your input..it is exactly what I wanted to hear about the subscription.

ONE MORE QUESTION: Do you get a speacial radio for it? What is a receiver??? Gawd, I'm such a dweeb when it comes to mechanical/thecnical stuff. I just got my mp3 player figured out!

Any hints as to what kind of radio I should get? Can I use it in my car like I would my mp3 player? I sure would appreciate anything you could tell me about it. deb :)

HB, you around???

I know Honeybunch has it also and maybe she can help with some more questions. Just wanted to butt in and say Hi Deb! How is Steve and the kids? Are you & Steve still working out together? Again, nice to "see" you!!!

RE: HB, you around???

When you purchase XM you are supplied with the radio/receiver. You can either install it yourself or you can have it done for you (extra charge, of course). You can go to XM's web site and view the different radios/prices available.

Have fun!

RE: HB, you around???

Deb! Great to hear from you! Steve is still at it with all of Cathe's weight tapes and now Eva, now 18yrs. old is a Catheite. You should hear the banter when it's time to work out: "What are you doing? legs? Pyramids? Can I do it with you? How long are you going to be? I've got a date! Can you take your workout to the other dvd player I want to do cardio.....yada, yada. Sometimes it ain't pretty. I am proud that my once un-athletic daughter has now embraced fitness! We have a treadmill and she watches what she calls "treadmill flicks" Powerwalking through them and hour at a time and then putting in a Cathe weight dvd and doing that too! I'm in utter shock!

How are the grand babies? Kennedy must be heading off to Kindergarden soon, yes? It is so exciting around here lately with the new workouts. Have you recieved yours yet? deb:)

RE: HB, you around???

Let me get this straight. The monthly subscrition is 12+ a month, with a radio too? That sounds too good to be true....what am I missing? deb

Well - I will be a detractor here - I have Sirius and absolutly love it. I agree with the previous poster that I will never go back to regular radio. After having satelite - and then trying to listen to regular radio - I never realized just HOW many commercials there are.

My new car came with XM and I hated it compared to the programming on Sirius and have switched my car back to Sirius as well. Whichever one you go with - you will be VERY happy!

Thank you for your input. When you subscribe do you get a radio too or do you purchasse it separate? I have been scanning the XM satallite radio sebsite and can't seem to find the answer. I love talk radio...and commercial free music. I am up at very early hours 3-4 am and wonder if some of the shows that come on ealier are available at these hours. Do you know anything about this? Thanks~deb

The radio is priced separately from the subscription -- it is not included in the price of the subscription.

You can also purchase radios and accessories from Best Buy and Circuit City. I have a boom box type satellite radio in my house and I bought it from Best Buy about 2 years ago. It has a CD player and can also play local radio as well.
