Who gets massages?

I have been thinking about weekly massages and wondered if this indulgence will be worth it. Do DOMS seem less intense when regularly manipulated, or is it difficult to relax when the masseuse/masseur starts to massage sore muscles?

Just wondering what y'all think.

Doreen,
I would get regular massages if I could. I usually only get a few per year, but I'm working on rearranging my budget so I can get them about once a month.

I think I'd love a weekly massage!! But I try for once a month. I think it does help with DOMS but not sure I'd want a massage if I had severe DOMS! It really depends on what kind of massage the therapist does. I believe there are different kinds. I prefer a deep muscle massage and have had some painful (not necessarily DOMS) ares manipulated so the pain is lessened. I feel massages on a regular schedule are very good for you body..:)

I get 90 minute deep tissue massages every other week. I can't tell you how much better you will feel, especially if you have problem areas that are sore all of the time. For me, it's my hips, hamstrings and neck.

Well worth the money (I haven't been injured in years and really helps to manage past injuries). In fact, I have an appointment in about an hour and a half from now:7 :7 I truely look forward to my massages!

I'm having my first massage this weekend. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous. I have no idea what to expect. I'm told I'll love it. I hope I do! I actually have coverage in my health care benefits for massages up to a certain dollar amount per year, so I figured I might as well take advantage!

My DH gets a 90 min massage at least every 2 weeks and sometimes more often than that. It's not an issue of DOMS for him because he doesn't workout (I'm trying to change that, though), so I'm not sure how massage affects DOMS. My DH is always very relaxed after a massage and he's completely addicted.

I have a question--for those of you who get massages, is it a man or woman? I've only had two & both times it was a man which made me rather nervous. I ended up even more tense by the time it was over.......

I started getting a massage every other week about 5 years ago, and it has made a world of difference! I feel so much better and it helps me work on my flexibility to not have my muscles all in knots.

My massage therapist is female. I don't think I would feel comfortable going to a man. But...it's important that whoever you go to that you feel comfortable. They should tell you to leave on your underwear if you want to (which I do) and they should only uncover the part they are working on. They should also stay away from "private areas". If anything makes you uncomfortable don't be afraid to say so - including whether you are cold and need another blanket!
