Who else gets crazy messages on Facebook?

Today I checked my inbox & I had invitations from two "gentleman." A 26 YO in Indonesia & a 39 YO in the UK who "want to get to know me better." Oh, & the 26 YO is willing to relocate to hang out w/me. What is up w/that? How do they even find me? Have they never heard of Match.com? And who on earth wants an intercontinental relationship?

Please note: I think this has nothing to do w/my looks, I suspect a large number of these messages went to many many poor unsuspecting women. ;)

People are really weird.

Do you use the same avaitar picture? That could be your problem right there! ;) Maybe they think that you are an easy target or really like blue furry monsters.

I get odd messages all the time, usually invitations to join dubious looking social groups. Not nice really.

I am of no help really, I just couldn't help myself with your picture.

A lot of randoms like that are actually hackers tyring to get into your account.
Not that this isn't common sense to most of us, but if you don't know the person trying to friend you, ignore their request!

I've had several friends accept "random" friend requests, only to have their accounts hijacked. One of them was supposedly "chatting" at 5am quite inappropriately. And if you're like me, you have coworkers as "friends" too, which could be very, very bad!

I've gotten a couple of them. One of the was a friend of a friend but I didn't know who he was. When I looked at his profile, he had about 1000 friends that were all female.

Heather! LOL! No, it's a pic of me! An old one w/much shorter hair, & not a very attractive one at that.

Melissa, I had no idea people could do that. Why on earth would someone want to hack into my account? There is absolutely nothing of use there. Funny, I just got a friend request from a woman in India. Do you think there's something going on w/my account? I mean, it has happened once in a while, but I don't think I've ever had 3 odd messages in one day.

I got an e-mail from a guy I'm friends on in FB and he warned me of a virus going around with FB. I didn't receive anything myself, but some of my FB friends did and since they were alerted don't open anything you don't recognize

Hey Laura,
These "hackers" tend to come in cycles, I've found. I have several friends that have had this experience in the last week. Genearlly, it's harmless, since there's no real personal data (I hope!) on your account. They just load up a virus that causes various things to happen, like your account automatically messaging spam to everyone you're friends with. That kind of thing.

And of course, there's your Grade A creeps out there, like others have experienced.

It may not be something wrong with your account, but maybe others that you're friends with, or they are just targeting people in your network, etc.... I would just run antivirus software on your PC every so often to make sure you're free of them, and of course, don't accept an invite from someone you don't know.

I have gotten a couple of messages on my wall, supposedly from one of my facebook friends to "check out your pics" at some website or something to that effect. It is a virus that breaks into your facebook account and sends messages to your friends trying to get them to go to a website where even worse things happen! Be careful!

Aimee

Yay, 100th post!

Freaky! Nope, absolutely nothing personal on there. Just the bare minimum that allowed me to sign up.

Aimee, contrats on #100! :)
