Who does Bikram (hot) yoga?

The Bikram yoga place closest to me is doing an amazing one month intro special--$29 unlimited for the first month (after that it's expensive). I'd like to try it though...but maybe wait til fall? Not sure if I want to go from 90 degrees to 105 degrees and risk hot flashes on top of that. How long does it take to get adjusted to the heat?

Anyway, I can't do movements that strain my neck, will I still be able to get benefit from most of the poses? I definitely need work with stretching and flexibility.

Thanks!

I have practiced Bikram for the past two years and LOVE it! My daughter found a studio in her college town and practices there. A good Bikram teacher will help you through any structural issues you may have if you communicate it to them. We have all sorts of people in our studio...those with arthritis, recovering from all sorts of injuries, old and yourng...differnent levels of fitness. Bikram is for everyone who is capable and willing. Yes, it is hot. I say go for the introduction...that is how I did it. Give it a while for the first 45 mins ( 45 mins. standing+ 45 mins. on ground) and see how you feel. Let me know how you like it.Deb

I love hot yoga. At first I didnt think I would but the more you do it the better and more adjusted you get. I definatly can feel a difference from doing it in my joints and muscles. It is definatly a more athletic yoga and not your "zen"esk kinda yoga. So if you do decide to go make sure you drink LOTS of water prior and after bring a towel for your mat and a wash cloth to wipe the sweat cause you do a lot of that...GOODLUCK!

ps. that price is a deal for trying it out

I agree. Give it a try. I love it. It is so relaxing yet a wonderful workout. It is expensive and that is a great price. When I was doing sts, I used hot yoga as my recovery week. It felt wonderful.

I bought the CD of Bikram himself teaching a yoga class, copied all 26 poses from my Bikram book, rolled out a carpet in my garage, and practice in there and saved $$ for the summer. Since my daughter is home this summer and we both have practiced a couple of years now it was a no-brainer! I live in Ca. Central Valley so it gets to be 105-110 degrees in my garage. CD is found at Bikramyoga.com.

I take hot yoga classes 5 to 6 days a week. I love it!! I don't know how different it is, but I do the Baptiste hot yoga. It really is a great release and different from all other workouts I have done. I have videos, however, I seem to need to be in the class to work to my "edge". I hope you try it!

LOL at the thought of doing it in my ovecrowded garage! That's awesome that you could do this but there would be no way I'd do it on my own. I need the classes, at least at first...maybe then I could get the DVD. Thanks!

Thanks, I'm sure I need to be in class, at least at first to really get it too. :D

Deb, Sissy and LaDonna,

Thanks for all the positive feedback, yeah I figure I can't lose with the intro fee of $29 and it will give me a good feel for it to see if it's the right fit. My challenge is that I REALLY want to start martial arts too and I'm not sure which I want to try first. Good problem to have though. ;)
