Who are Your Favorite Fitness Instructors and Why?

Miss Lee

Cathlete
I've been sorting through my home workouts, trying to declutter and separate the wheat from the chaff, and it became apparent that I have 3 favorite instructors who I turn to time and again for my workouts; one for strength training, one for cardio, and one for flexibility. Each of these three has greatly improved the quality of my life and I rarely stray from them.

1. Cathe - She is my go-to girl for strength training!! I usually refer to her as the "mighty one", or "'lil dynamo". I am just in awe of her. She's the complete package -- the best production values (I mean, her most poorly produced DVD is better than the best DVD of any other instructor IMHO), the best on camera personality, the best cuing, the best form, the best background exercisers -- she's the BEST all around! I've tried other instructors but I always come back to Cathe. The 4DS is my current favorite, but I cannot wait for STS!!

2. Cardio Coach -- I know you're all really stunned and surprised :p . As much as I love Cathe I'm just too clumsy for her cardio, although I do marvel at it and often watch it just for the WOW factor -- lol! Coach Sean's workouts, to me, are the audio equivalent of a Cathe DVD -- they are the best audio guided workouts on the market IMHO. I never dreamed I could get such a fantastic workout on my elliptical!

3. Classical Stretch with Miranda Esmonde-White - She's kind of quirky, but I find her endearing. Her workouts have strengthened my core, improved my balance, opened my hips, relieved my pain, and made me feel 2" taller. As quirky as she is, she has a knack for explaining how to execute a movement -- she helps me see it in my minds eye, which is good because I can't always look at the TV when I'm doing her workouts. :p

Who are some of your favorites?

Cathe, because:
1) her abs are so inspiring
2) she has a certain kind of charisma that makes you want to be her drinking buddy, even when you're cursing a blue streak at her
3) she's set the bar & paved the way for all other fitness instructor out there--she is the gold standard!

Amy, because she kicks my butt and I love it!

Tracey, because she has such a fun personality & is so down to earth.

Tony, because he's so purdy.

Agreed, especially with #3!

Cathe for sure!! The top one for me. She has been my one & only for quite a while. She's not some "suzie" workout like alot of others. I can always count on her for results. I like her strength & cardio both. Although I will say it took me some time to learn her choreography on the step. 4DS HI still stumbles me.

I like Gin Miller although I can't tell you the last time I did her step - Simply interval short & sweet. This one I like but not long enough I always add something else with it.

Amy Bento, I only have one of her. Like the strength but not sure of cardio. Her strength also gets the job done.

Any favorites comparable to Cathe would be great to know of.
Getting ready for my first RT I just can't seem to break away from Cathe right now.
Tami:D

You swear at her too?!? My DH asked me if I was going to do that at the RT? .....Probably not!!

Cathe is my top favorite because I never get bored with her cardio workouts, even if I've done the workout fifty times, I still always have to focus and concentrate on the moves and footwork. I really like that. I HATED step before I found Cathe and now I know why--because I always found it boring and repetitive and a lot of instructors don't cue very well. Not so with Cathe--I always have to pay attention. The other main reason Cathe's my favorite is her personality, she always comes across as genuine and her remarks impulsive, not scripted and fake, that also goes for Cedie, Jae, Lorraine and Brenda. And lastly, Cathe ALWAYS challenges me to use heavier weights, push myself harder to finish a blast I couldn't finish before, etc.

Another favorite instructor is Kimberly Spreen. She has a nice way about her, like you're working out with your friend and she challenges me too.

ETA: I swear at Cathe sometimes too! At least nobody can hear me doing it!:p

"As much as I love Cathe I'm just too clumsy for her cardio, although I do marvel at it and often watch it just for the WOW factor -- lol!"

I agree with this statement 100%. Cathe is my favorite for weight training too.

Cathe. And Cathe. And then Cathe.

I'm such a Cathe snob. I honestly can not workout with any other instructor. She is so strong, funny, and talented and I swear she could be my new BFF. ;) :p I really think she's just so stunningly beautiful. I'm such a dork. I wake up every morning and look forward to working out with her. She's really changed me entire outlook on working out, being strong, and being fit. I used to work out just to "stay skinny". Because of Cathe I realized there's so much more to working out. I have muscles now! Holy schnikes!

I guess I should give props to Grace from iTread too for getting me back into running. I couldn't do it without her. And of course, I'll always have a special place in my heart for Tracey Staehle. ;) :D

ETA: I forgot to add that I completely agree with Laura's #2. That's exactly what makes me love Cathe so much. She's so real and cool. She's just a total, all-around, kick-a$$ gal.

Cathe Friedrich.

Love her workouts, love her intensity, love her personality, love her choreography, love her weight work, etc.

Simply put, she ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cathe, of course.

Kimberly Spreen - she's fun and seems like a sweet person.

Me - I'm not so bad, right? :+

1. Cathe ~ agreed w/ everyone else above!! She knows how to make you work hard but have FUN!!! She looks incredible and I would love to have abs like hers!

2. Tony Horton ~ Love him and his funny quips from P90X/ X+. He's made me push myself harder w/ weights and pullups than ever before.
He's darn good lookin' for almost 50. }(

I really can't choose a favorite!

I like variety and I'm not easily annoyed so I like them all for different reasons!

I love Cathe for weight training and some of her cardio. I'm not a fan of step workouts.

I love Chalene Johnson from Turbo Jam because she has high energy that is contagious!

Tony Horton for his humor and ability to push me to lift heavy and do a gazillion pull ups:)

Callanetics for over 25 years of solid abs.

Jari Love for her total body weight training and calm presence. I love this style of lifting when I cut weight:)

Coach Sean for showing me how to push myself like never before!!! I'll be ready to run a marathon before I know it!!!

1) Cathe...from the quality of her productions, to the intensity and effectiveness of the workouts, to Cathe herself, there is no one better, I join Allison in her dorkiness when it comes to Cathe, I have definition in areas that I once thought hopeless!!!

2) Leslie Sansone..no other reason than my wife works out to her, and that makes me a fan as well. The anti-Cathe in terms of intensity, but she does indeed know her target audience, and has helped my wife actually enjoy working out. I am hopeful of one day having my wife attempt a Cathe workout, but that's in the future.

3) Billy Blanks..TaeBo came into my life at a time when an intense workout was much needed, right after the fog began to lift after my depression. While I've moved on from Billy, I will never forget what he helped me to accomplish, I'll always be greatful for that!

1.Cathe
2.Cathe, and
3.Cathe
She is simply the best at what she does. Every so often I try other instructors, but then I wonder why I wander off to try someone new when it is never the same! Her style, cueing, and down-to-earth personality is the best! I still get tripped up a little with the step routines, but I'm slowly improving. How is it that she can make a tough workout so much fun? And she is too cute.

Allison--I agree. I feel as if I would like her to be my BFF!;-)

Gin:)

ETA: Should I try Cardio Coach?? I have heard so many good things about his workouts! But, I don't even have access to any machines. :(

I need to add that my favorite video ever, from any instructor, is Cathe's Kick, Punch, and Crunch, it was my intro to Cathe, and I was a little concerned when I actually ordered it that I might be out of my league.

Instead, I found it "intensly doable", and the absolute icing on the cake was, it was the first workout video I had ever done that used pre-mixes, I was immediately hooked.

I am so envious of all you fancy steppers and kickboxers! I have an irrational fear that someone will sneak up on me doing those things, secretly film me, and put it on America's Funniest Home Videos or YouTube  . I mean, I look really dorky doing that stuff. ;) :7

I'm having my house painted right now, and for the last several days while working out, I've looked up to find a guy outside the window painting. And it's never when I'm lifting heavy dumbbells looking tough, it's always when I'm doing something goofy looking. I imagine them comparing notes and laughing at me...."Did you see her pretending to jump rope on the step???"

Carolyn, if you lived near me I'd hire you to be my PT in a heartbeat! And you always have so much useful information when you post here. I've learned so much from you. ;)

Jerry, I used Leslie Sansone to get back in shape after a 2 year hiatus from working out, and there is still an occasional place for her in my regimen. I have a lot of respect for her. ;)
