Which was it - the YAZ or the SPINACH?

OK, Monday afternoon I ate a big piece of cod with 1/2 bag of frozen spinach on top of it. All day Tuesday I had flu-like symptoms, nausea, weakness, and major joint pain in my hips & back. I was sooo miserable! I had to drive 1 1/2 hrs each way to a seminar Tuesday and sit in a very, very uncomfortable seat to top it all off. I felt like a big baby!

Do you think that this spinach, which was several months old, could have been some of the spinach that was recalled???

I am trying to decide if it was the spinach or SEVERE PMS from the YAZ birth control pills I started about 7 weeks ago???

Any input is greatly appreciated!! :D

That sounds more like menstrual pains. I'm experiencing the same thing now, esp. the pain in my lower back and hips. If it was the spinach, you would most likely experience diarrhea and blood in your feces. I wouldn't worry about it.

I am taking YAZ to help with PMDD some of they symptoms include bloating, major cramping etc... It definitely has helped me in my physical symptoms . I've never experienced your symptoms since being on this pill for over a year now. Did you read the side effects of this pill? I honestly don't know what they are as I haven't experienced any negative effects.

That is what I find strange about this...YAZ is supposed to reduce PMDD symptoms, so is it possible that it can make them worse? I have read a few posts on different forums that some women did get worse with it. And my placebo pills did not start until yesterday and these symptoms arrived very early Tuesday morning.

No one else in the family is/was sick, so I felt certain it was either hormonal or the spinach because no one else ate it. The fish was fine.

I am still not right. x( I was still sick on my stomach Wednesday and this morning I am better but not entirely. I have barely been able to eat anything....not that I think this is such a "bad" side effect. I forced myself to run both yesterday and today...I could only do about 1/2 of what I normally do. :-(

I am soo sad because I was hoping to really get some awesome workouts in before this weekend's Road Trip to see CATHE! My best hope right now is that I am just feeling good during the weekend.

Many thanks! ~~ Denise :)

Whoa.... try to take it easy if you are feeling bad. Don't push yourself to w/out when you are sick. You aren't going to lose anything by taking a day off. Plus you probab;ly need to rest up. You know your w/outs will be killer on the RT. Have fun and get some rest until then!

Neicebug - Birth control can work very differently on different people. I tried YAZ last year, and was sick all the time. Instead of having severe menstral cramps once a month, I lived with mild ones all the time. I had a lot of other issues too and finally went off it after 6 months of misery. Not saying that it is doing that to you, but your symptoms are very similar to what I was dealing with when I was on it. My doctor told me originally to give it 3 months before deciding it wasn't working. I would stick with it for a little longer (since you've only been on it 7 weeks) and keep track of your symptoms over the next two cycles and then reavaluate with your doctor how it is working for you. It might not be the birth control and things will just calm down or you may find out that you need to try a different pill or a different strength pill.

Liann: Thank you so much for your input! It is much appreciated! I think I will attempt to do another month on YAZ and see what happens...strange since these symptoms did not appear during my first set of placebo pills. But, like you said, everyone is very different and who really knows?

THANKS AGAIN!! ~~ Denise :)

When I first got on YAZ, I was much crampier than I had ever been without the pill, and lasted the entire 4 days, rather than just the normal 1st day (for me). After that one or two months, it has now lessened to a mild cramping that lasts for 4 days.

Why would there be symptoms with placebo pills? They are just sugar pills with no drugs in them.

Kathryn, Probably since it is during the time you take placebo pills that the PMS and your period begins.

Although I no longer have to worry about them, I *hated* birth control pills when I would attempt to see if my body could tolerate them.
