Which to do first, cardio or weights?

Cathe - I have your Timesaver DVD and I love it but I have a question. Why do you have the cardio before the weights? Do you recommend doing it that way on days when you do both? I've always heard that weights should be done first because you can lift more weight if your muscles aren't tired from cardio.

I am not Cathe, but I do my cardio before I do my weights because then my muscles are already warmed up. Warm muscles means less chance of injury. During the summer, warm-ups aren't as important because the weather is usually so hot. During the winter, they are very important. I am sure that others will have much to add to this topic.

I'm not Cathe either, but I've heard/read that doing strength before cardio allows you to lift heavier. If you do cardio first, your much more likely to be fatigued which means you may not be able to lift as heavy. Of course, I suppose that depends on how intense your cardio is.

I've read studies that it is best to do weights before cardio(after a warm-up). I think they stated that exercise form was much better before doing a cardio workout.
That being said, I enjoy doing weights first because I usually feel so exausted after cardio, so that's what I do. I'm interested to see what Cathe says about it.

What YOU do is totally up to personal preference. Whichever order gets you through. For me this will always be cardio first. But really, I prefer separate cardio and weight days.

Different studies say do different things. Some sources tell you to warm up and do cardio before you lift so that your muscles are definitely warmed up, other studies say that you should do weights first to burn glycogen stores and then do cardio second so that you burn more fat.

I think it is really what you feel safer doing. I know that when I do weights for my legs first, it really slows my cardio down and makes me clumsy so I do cardio before I do my leg work. When I do upper body, I go ahead and do cardio second since I won't be using my arms to do much running or step. :+
