Which protein powder?

Whey, soy, or regular? Which does everyone suggest? What flavor does everyone prefer? I know in BFL that regular Myoplex is mentioned (I am in the process of reading the book). I thought about trying some but I am not sure what to get. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.:) :)

i just found one that I think is tasty - it's Rainbow Light's chocolate protein powder. It has spirulina and other good stuff in it! It's vegan, which is what I look for, and doesn't have any soy (rice based protein).

I've heard very good things about spirutein (sp?) which also has spirulina in it I believe. The guy at my local health foods store said the taste is awesome. I think they do have soy in them.

I use Revival Soy Protein. I had some health issues and this really helped.
I also use Goumet Protein (whey protein). This has the most amazing taste and comes in several flavors.

I make a smoothie every morning for me and my husband and it is great.

I have started using Spirutein also. I like anything Vanilla! I also sometimes mix it with a Whey protein powder that I get at our local healthfood store. I use it mainly because I workout alot and wanted to add a bit more protein to my vegetarian diet. You might have to taste a few first. Most Healthfood stores seel single packets of their protein powder...that might be the way to go...:)...Carole

I'm curious--why do you feel you need protein powder? It's so expensive & it tastes nasty. Not sure what the benefits are if you already have a healthy diet.

Hi Sabrina! I buy Isopure Whey Protein powder. I try to get as close to 100% protein as I can. Mine has no carbs or fat in it & it doesn't contain any fillers. When I use 2 scoops this gives me 50g of protein. HTH, Kathy :D

Maximus: We use protein powder strictly for convenience. I put 1 scoop into my oatmeal instead of cooking up a 4 egg white omelet. Also for making sure we get in enough protein for the day.

I use Biotest Grow..tastes just like cake batter.

It has 20 grams of protein, 2 grams carbs and 110 calories per scoop.
Mixes with water so I don't have to add milk. Tastes wonderful. I usually have 2 scoops per day. I sometimes put it in my oatmeal also.
Great for adding extra protein.

Maximus,

I was looking into protein powder for a couple different reasons: BFL talks about using it, I wonder about getting enough protein because I don't like fish. I also have a hard time with breakfast because I don't like oatmeal either. I have tried to eat it several different ways but it just doesn't trip my trigger. I don't like the creamy texture. I have always been a cereal person but know that this isn't good for you (I love the Blueberry morning cereal from Post and the Vanilla Almond Special K, both with blueberries on top--YUM) I would welcome any other suggestions if you have some.

Thanks for the help!! :) :)

Sabrina,

I use Whey Superior by Just Be Natural (www.jbn.com) - the taste is delicious, and it dissolves wonderfully. I buy the French Vanilla Swirl flavor, and have some every morning with OJ after my workout (it tastes like an orange push-up!).

I really can't rave enough about this stuff - it is really tasty. I also use the chocolate flavor to make protein pudding - YUM!

Maximus....it doesn't all taste nasty!!! For me personally I like to have a smoothie with the protein powder within 30 minutes of working out to aid in recovery of my muscles...one of those things I must have read somewhere...;-) ...Carole

Well I think some of you have cleared this up for me. I get plenty of protein in my diet & I'm kind of cheap so the only supplements I buy are vitamins. I don't know if I can offer any suggestions if you don't like red meat. Although, I think most nuts are high in protein, but probably not as much as these powders. As an Atkins girl nuts are one of my staples.:9

Red meat is fine, I love a good steak. I just don't like fish! Nuts are good, too bad peanut M&M's don't count though. I would be on cloud 9!!:D

I use Designer Whey protein in vanilla, chocolate and their new flavor Chocolate Peanut Caramel. Usually I add any of them to vanilla or chocolate soy milk or mix the vanilla with OJ and some frozen fruit. I have found that this powder doesn't hurt my stomach or give me, eh hem, digestion issues. :)

I have been using Optimum Nutrition Whey protein chocolate. I usually mix it with skim milk and add some berries or a half a banana and blend with ice. It really helps my sweet tooth and tastes like a milkshake. I can actually see some results in by body now. I would highly recommend this brand for flavor.

Aila:)
