Where to start??

I wanted to get started with some Cathe videos but there are so many! I don't know where to start!

Two years ago I was teaching cycling/spinning classes and in great shape. Then I got pregnant and had a high risk pregnancy with lots of bedrest so I'm not in the shape I used to be. I have a 4 month old that I'm nursing and need to lose about 25 lbs. I also have two other kids so life is busy!

Soooo..where to start? I used to lift very heavy and I have to get my heart rate up and keep it up to lose weight. My body fights me all the way! I'd love some suggestions. I was thinking about the 4 day split with maybe a couple more cardio workouts? Thanks for any advice!!

what would you consider your current fitness level??? although i think cathe's workouts can be modified for lower impact work do you mind moderate/complex choreography? i don't have four day split myself but i have several other workouts. i have the body blast series which maybe a good start back into weights and cardio. more intermediate/advanced then full blown advanced. intensity series it pretty good but boot camp and IMAX2 are killer workouts but def. something to work up with again. i also love her high step stuff. the 3 high step dvds of hers combine cardio and weights which make for time efficient killer workouts with something different.

these are just some of my more favs i hope others can chime in b/c we have a great knowledgeable crowd here.

I'm probably at an intermediate level. I've been doing the elliptical trainer a good bit so my cardiovascular health is okay.

I'm okay with moderate choreography. I may have to watch something a few times before I get it if it's really advanced.

I like the look of the Body Blast series. How intermediate is the weight workout? I'm concerned I'll outgrow the workouts pretty fast if it's too easy. But I guess I can always sell them if they get too easy.

Thanks for the reply! There is SO much to choose from!

well IMO its pretty intermediate but heavier weights would make it harder its just in this series the sets are a bit longer so heavier weight wouldn't last too long LOL.but the body blast series does have the workout blender and several premixes to make your own chaptered workout. so you can make splits or full body workouts.

the hardcore series i believe does use more moderate/heavy weights. muscle max and gym styles splits might also work although i don't have these workouts myself i just watch the clips and still on the fence about it for myself.

Hi Staceyliza,

Since you said that your goals are to lift heavy and also get some cardio in, I'd recommend getting the new Four Day Split series. It has the best of both worlds, and the weight work in it definitely leaves room to grow. The choreography in the two step workouts is a little tricky at first, but using the slow motion feature on your remote control really helps!:)

I have most of the Body Blast series and they are a lot of fun, but I've gotten my best results from more focused heavier lifting (like the 4DS, Slow & Heavy, and GS). The Gym Styles series that Kassia mentioned are wonderful, although you can't buy them as a bundle to save money and they are only weight training.

If you're looking for cardio, then the KPC/L&G workouts from Body Blast are great. KPC is one of my favorite cardio workouts, and I know that a lot of people love it, too!

Whatever you decide, I don't think you'll need to worry about outgrowing the weight workouts. Cathe really has designed them so that you can bump up your weights and continue to make progress.

Hope this helps!:)

Thanks so much for the reply! If I did get the 4DS would KPC/L&G be a good add on for cardio? Is there A LOT of cardio on that selection? I think I like the shorter segments on the 4DS with how young my little one is right now. It would be hard to do a 2 hour workout right now. Thanks so much!

I think that KPC/L&G would be a great add-on for cardio, but just be aware that only the KPC workout is cardio, so you'd only be getting a one-hour cardio workout. KPC is a really fun workout, though, so it would be great to get if you want to squeeze in an extra day of cardio!

Do you like step workouts? If so, you might want to look into workouts like Imax 2 (which is a favorite among Cathe fans -- it's HARD, but super fun!) or something like Low Max (which is low impact, but also very intense -- it really works your legs hard!). Kick Max is another great kickboxing workout, too, and I think it's about 70 minutes long.

I tend to change my rotations and cardio depending on what I'm doing. For instance, if I'm working with the 4DS series for a few weeks, then I try to add in one extra day of just cardio (about one hour). If I'm doing the Gym Styles for a few weeks (which are three days of just weights), then I try to add in two full days of cardio (about one hour). I try to make one of those cardio days a step day and one a kickboxing day to prevent any injuries.

Edited to add: Also, I forgot to mention that almost all of the Cathe DVD's have great premix options, including a Timesaver feature, so if you don't have time to do a 60- or 70-minute workout, you can shorten it!

Hope this helps! Let us know what you decide!
