Where to begin

After a number of years sitting on my tail, I am determined to begin a workout program again. I have done some of Cathe's workouts workouts in the past and fell in love with them. At this point I am so out of shape that I need some assistance deciding where to begin.

My time is somewhat limited right now (I'm a CPA) so I am considering the HiiT series, but I am concerned that they may be too advanced. On the other hand I want a program that I can continue with and will keep challenging me.

Ant suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I am 55 years old and about 30 lbs overweight.

O.Kami, do you have equipment that you'd like to use with the dvd's, like weights, step..etc? I would say the low impact stuff would be good starters.

Dawn,

I do. I have a full set of dumbbells, a barbell & weights, a step, etc

I've started thinking that a month of the on demand service might be a good way to check out which workouts might be best for me

I think starting out with On Demand is an excellent intro and really the ideal way to figure what what you enjoy doing and what you will commit to. :)

For intro to weights, I recommend Total Body Sculpting http://www.cathedownloads.com/total-body-sculpting-fitness-video-download/, Body Blast Supersets http://www.cathedownloads.com/body-blast-series-supersets-exercise-video-download/, and Upper Body Sculpt http://www.cathedownloads.com/upper-body-sculpt-workout-video-download/.
For an all encompassing routine, there are many to choose from. I personally think High Step Circuit and Travel Fit are nice places to begin. ICE Metabolic Total Body would be an excellent one to work up to.

Have fun!

I agree that it would be helpful to to try workouts via On Demand, but thought I would share my own Cathe beginnings, since I started from a similar place as you.

My very first Cathe workouts were Basic Step and Low Impact Step (these came combined on a DVD that came with the Home Step I bought at Big 5, so I did not have any of weight workouts). Once I become proficient with them, I purchased Body Max 2, Low Max, Muscle Max, and Butts and Guts. Of these 4 great workouts, I would really recommend Body Max 2 as a next step.

This workout has steady state cardio with medium impact, power circuit segments with higher impact cardio and lower body strength training, an upper body workout on the stability ball, a tough core section, and a fantastic stretch. Also, you can use the chapters or the premixes to switch the workout up in many different ways. I just love that Scrambled Eggs premix routine, even though I am always tuckered out by the end!

Although we have our personal preferences and styles, if you like the fun of learning a new step routine, then I am sure this workout will satisfy. Whatever route you take, just stick with it and have fun!

I had quit exercising regularly for a couple of years and also put on about 25 pounds. I have to admit the weight gain was from poor food choices. When I started back in October, I used the dvd's I already had and just modified the moves a lot and quit when I had to. This meant somedays I would only do 12 minuets of a whole workout. This was for cardio. Weights were a lot easier to make a comeback. You will regain your cardio and strength ability, just pick something and start. My weight had not started to drop until I started eating a lot less. I still have 15 pounds to go at least, but I feel great, and this is motivating. Good for you for wanting to get back.
