When wanting to lean out...

what kind if weight workouts would you do? I am trying to lose around 10 lbs and I don't want my arms and legs to look as "thick" so what kind of weights should I do.
I was thinking of working each body part twice a week, once with one full body workout and the other time broken up into 3 workouts, with the GS style workouts. If I did this and used a comfortable weight should I lean out? Or should I use heavy weights and really push myself?

IMHO it really depends on how your body responds to weight training. I think that if I am going to lift a weight, I want it to be heavy enough to really challenge me or why bother? Maybe that is a psychological thing.

Lately I have been doing a rotation similar to what you describe, and that combined with really watching my calories (I use WW) I have found that I have maintained some nice muscle tone while losing weight, and the losing weight part of it has leaned out my upper arms (I have skinny legs) which is what I wanted.

If you are more genetically gifted than I am as far as adding muscle, you may find you would have to lay off the heavy weights but I doubt it. I think depending on your eating you won't have that problem, esp if you are eating to lose weight (restricting calories). To add "big" muscle you'd have to be eating more, big time protein, etc....

I am not an expert this is just what I have found for myself.

Hi Jen,
I build muscle fairly easily.I don't have a long lean figure so I know I will never look a certain way.But I feel the same way as you do when you say, "whats the point?" When I workout, the next day, I like to feel like I have worked out.
I think I am just going to try and work each body part twice a week and get a bit more cardio in there. And the muscle I aleady have built may be enough, its just covered over with a bit of lard.
