Sorry if there's already a thread on this but I couldn't find it. I have moderate/high arches and ITB problems and I'm on the hunt for better running shoes. Just wondering what everyone else likes or has been happy with.

Thanks!
Sandra

I wear Asics and like the Gel-Kayano 14 and the GT 2130. I have moderate arches and these fit me like a glove. In the past I have worn Nike and New Balance. But after suffering a knee issue, I have found the Asics to have the best cushioning and comfort. I have been wearing these for the last 8 years or so.

I love Nike Shox. I have arch problems and these really support my arches. On top of that, being a runner, I never have ankle problems whereas I have with other types of sneakers after a run. Also, the heel is really supportive. Whenever my foot hits the ground it feels like a soft mat underneath me. Not all Nike Shox are built the same. I prefer the Nike Shox Remix.

Do you have a running specialty store near you? They can help cater a shoe for your particular problems.
My favorite shoe of all times are New Balance (I also have ITB issues) They are great. I use the 700 series. They are the only shoes that have not given more problems.

Good luck finding the perfect shoe!! For your ITB problems make sure you are constantly stretching and icing!

I love the Asics shoe as well. Of course I never remember the name of them or number I should say! Nikes make my toes go numb and my last pair of New Balance took a while to break in...and I don't like that! I will soon be due for another pair of runners and it will be Asics without a doubt!

Please go to a running specialty shoe store as mentioned by Jennifit. That's really the only way to figure out what works for you in particular. I really think it's a bad idea to try a certain brand or style because it works well for someone else.

We have Fleet Feet here in my area. They are nationwide, so if there is one near you, I highly recommend them.

They put me in Mizunos a few years back and I've never felt better in a pair of running shoes. I just keep buying the same style over and over.

Good luck!

Sweet!

Thanks for the advice! I am stretching, using my foam roller and icing for my ITB and it all really helps. I had no idea there was a Fleet Feet less than 10 miles from me, cool! I am going today, thanks a bunch!

I agree, Mizunos are the best sneakers I have ever owned. I like the Wave Nirvana. I don't run anymore, but wear them for other activities too, well until recently, they are kind of worn out, so I tried out more of a "fitness" sneaker for my kickbox class, not bad, but not quite as comfortable.

I am going to third the nomination for Mizunos. I am on my 6th pair now and I will never go back. I have tried Asics and Nikes from Zappos and ended up sending them back.

The thing for me is that they felt perfect when I put them on. No matter what type of shoe you get - make sure it feels great right from the start - I have had too many disappointments when I thought a shoe would feel better when it got "broken in".

Asics Gel Nimbus. Unfortunately the newer ones are not as comfy as the older style so if you do find a style you like I reccomend buying 2-3 pair.

Brooks Adrenalin

very roomy, mesh at the toe. i walk alot at work and these r the only shoes i find comfortable. i have had them over a year and my feet still do not get sore. i have also seen them on runners. i got them at a sports store-REI

I wish I could help, but I overpronate and have pretty flat arches and although my FILA Sanctuary are fabulous for me, they might be disastrous for you! Hope you can find a decent sports store/specialty running store in your area and have your gait analysed and get fitted properly. Can't leave running shoes up to chance or fancy colours!

Asics DS Trainer

The asics DS trainer are great for racing and trying to learn to run faster, since they are so light and great to fly! I wear those when I race, but when I train and just run for fun I wear my asics 2130's and they too are lightweight but have a lot of cushion and stability. I'm a firm believer that you should where different shoes each time you run so your feet don't get to accustomed to one fit and risk things like stress fractures and imbalances. I also have a pair of Vibram Fivefingers that are great to learn how to become a barefoot runner and man, is that freeing! You just don't run very far in them. I usually do no more than 3 miles in them, and my longer runs I use my running shoes. They help realign and strengthen the bones and muscles in your feet!

Ellesan - I have high arches and have had ITB trouble too, and the asics ds trainers really worked best for me. Make sure you don't have one leg longer than the other, that's what led to my ITB trouble, and a 1/3 inch orthodic lift in my right shoe fixed that discrepancy! A chiropractor can help you with that. :)

I like my Asics Supernova's. I use to always buy Nike's but I had tried the Asic's and they fit great!! They are light for sprinting and HIIT!

Jodelle,
Thanks for the info. Ya know I heard that could be one of the reasons for ITB but never really cosidered it for me. I should get that checked out. Tomorrow I am going to Fleet Feet and will see if they can see a gait problem and get fit. If that doesn't help I'll go see a doc/chiropractor. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your advice and experience!

Sandra

I went to a running specialty store and am another HUGE mizuno fan. Around here the running store is the only one that carries them.

Another vote for Mizunos. I tried the Asics Kayano and didn't like the fit around my ankle - felt like I had to break them in. And the front of my foot hurt after just 5-6 miles.

I have a med/high arch and wear the Wave Creations. Just got the new Wave Creation 10 a couple weeks ago and they are even better than the 9's.

Mizunos are the best shoe my feet have ever worn. i really wanted the others to work...Asics,Brooks,etc because of the rave reviews, but my feet were happiest in the Mizunos. There was also a significant corerection to my stride when in the Mizuno, but I only discovered that by going to a specialty store and being videotaped on the treadmill in a variety of shoes. So, that's really the key...the specialty store...and trust me, you will KNOW when it's the right pair! No matter how much I argued with my feet over the cost they wouldn't accept any substitutes...and the film didn't lie either! LOL!:p

Thanks for all the replies and advice. I went to Fleet Feet today and it was a great experience! He spent over 30 minutes with me, I tried on several different shoes and ran on the treadmill, etc. He said Mizuno's weren't for my feet...got Asics GT 2130 (?). They fit great and I also got some inserts. So after coughing up $160 total I hope they're worth it!!
