What workout shoes do you wear?

I'm having a hard time finding the right shoe to wear for my workouts. I use to be able to get Ryka crosstrainers and they would be great. But its getting harder to find crosstrainers period, and the last pair I got that were Ryka's well, they were on ok.

I've almost worn out my Asics I've got now, and need to get them replaced soon.

I'm looking to do STS this summer using a little Insanity, Shock Cardio and hopefully Turbo Fire for cardio. So I'll need something that has good cushioning.

I'm willing to spend upwards of $100 on workout shoes, cause I only get one pair of feet, ankles, knees and hips and want they to last another 50+ years.

Lately, I've really been into Nike Bowerman Series running shoes. They don't get too hot, they're a little lighter in weight, and not too wide -- it helps me to not trip on my step! :p

I like the Ryka XT3 cross trainers for inside stuff (step, kickboxing, lifting) I liked the XT2 better, but they discontinued it. Figures. I wear the Asics model T077N to run. They are on the cheaper end of the Asics, but they are like clouds, and make my feet sooooooo happy. I was wearing a Ryka model to run - can't recall which, but they discontinued it and I tried a different pair of Ryka runners and that's when I first got PF. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin':p

I occasionally do kickboxing barefoot, and lift barefoot once in a great while. Like if I just painted my toes or happen to have a sore toe or something. I find painted toes and fingers make me happy, so if I can see them during a workout, I feel better. So if my tootsies are painted, I leave my shoes off if I can. Can't step barefooted, though. Feels weird. I have a fear of dropping a weight on my bare toes. Never dropped a weight on my toes yet, but someday, I'm sure I will. I like the little bit of protection the shoe has for that. Plus my balance is better in shoes. Can't do LB barefooted, only UB.

I work out with custom orthotics to protect my feet. This means I usually buy the more heavyweight footwear since I need something larger to hold the orthotics while still giving my foot a comfortable fit.

With those parameters, I have had success with New Balance cross trainers for kickboxing, step, and the elliptical trainer (I have used several different models and liked them). For running, I really like Adidas Raziya II.

It *is* harder to find cross trainers these days. I have a pair of Asics that I purchased through Zappos and feel the same as you do about your Rykas: they're just OK. Sometimes I get cramps in the arches of my feet when I wear them, so like Nan, I occasionally kickbox or lift barefoot.

I will likely order my next pair from Zappos again because at least if it's wrong for me, the return shipping is free. This is the pair of Rykas that caught my eye over there since the majority of reviewers rated it as having good arch support:

It is definitely getting harder to find crosstrainers. After wearing NB ct's for years, not feeling comfortable in Ryka's my new favorites--and I love them--are Asics. They are just so comfortable. Nike's just don't fit me that well. Good luck! I got mine at Sports Authority.

I wear AVIA crosstrainers when working out. This is my second pair and they last me for about a year. I bought them at Famous Footwear and they are super comfy.

I'm in love with the Nike Air Max I bought last month. The difference from the Adidas I was wearing prior is unbelieveable. I was getting that intermittent cramping mentioned by previous poster - never had that before and its very distracting whilst stepping.

Only caution on these is that they have a non-slip rubber sole - which is a little bit too effective as it doesn't premit any glide whatsoever and consequently I had a sticky moment on my step last week and went into orbit. Also when Cathe likes to cha-cha along the floor there's no 'give' there also - but I guess that's dependant on what floor you're on.

I was looking at some Reeboks y'day - they looked great but years of experience has taught me that the cushioning is way below the standard of a Nike and you can end up with some painful shin splints.

I only wear Adidas, and prefer their Supernova model. I had trouble with chronic achilles tendonitis for years and wearing these fixed that.

I've really been loving the Adidas Response. It's a running shoe but it seems to have a lot of cushioning and i love it for kickboxing and weights.
