What type of flooring do you use for your Cathe workouts?

Good morning,

Just curious to hear what type of flooring you use for your workouts. I'm on carpet currently, but looking into purchasing either rubber tiles or mats. Please let me know what's working best for you.

Thanks.

RE: What type of flooring do you use for your Cathe wor...

I am on carpet. Purchased puzzlemats a few weeks ago and laid them down on my carpet in an attempt to create a smooth work out surface..well, it didn't work..they slid all over the place. If you don't need to pick them up and can secure them by nailing them down, I have heard that will work, but for me, I can't do that, so I returned them and will remain on carpet until I move out of this house atleast...oh well.:(

Hope you have better luck!:)

Have a great work out!

You're quite welcome, Lisa.

If you find a solution that doesn't have to be "permanent", please post it! I'd love to know!

Thanks!:) :) :)

I am doing carpet in a 2nd story bedroom so it feels ok on my knees but I was previewing Kick Max yesterday and I am worried all the pivoting on carpet would hurt my knees by the torquing on carpet. Have tried puzzle mats but they slid too...I guess I'd have to fill the room with them and that is not going to happen. I know there are other mats out there but I would think they would also slip on carpet

I use the puzzle mats. Prior to this I was exercising on my cement basement floor covered with thin indoor/outdoor carpet. I put the puzzle mats over the carpet and they don't slip much. It may help that I have 25 mats put together in a big square. They moved more when I didn't have as many. But with 25, it is working nicely and saving my legs and joints.

OUCH! My knees and hips hurt just thinking about it!

Thanks, everybody! Actually, the twisting on the carpet is what I'm kind of worried about. I do have space where I can lay the tile down on hardwood floor, though, so I guess I'll go that route.

Thanks again for all of your feedback!

Have a great day!

I was also curious about the puzzle mats on carpet. Knowing that they slip and slide, it's a good thing I haven't purchased any yet. I 've noticed too that all the pivoting in Kick Max is really difficult on carpet. Has anyone ever tried putting a rubber mat between the carpet and puzzle mats...I wonder if that'll work...hmmm...I'll have to look into that.

the puzzle mats really absorbe the shock!!!!!!! now if i was JUST on the concrete.. besides being wicked cold in the winter.... ya.. i'm sure my knees/joints would be howling!

i moved out to the garage when i started cathe cuz i didn't have room in my livingroom do so step or kickbox! i like having everything right there.. no more dragging it into the house! it's all set up nice with a large tv and dvd... etc!

i even put up a dry erase board with the weights of my most used workouts! i just need a poster of cather to put next to the lance armstrong poster!

Kathryn,

Do you use that surface for kickboxing and/or step? I'm curious to know if the puzzle mats are stable enough for those applications.

I haven't done much step lately, but I did the other day, and they're fine. I kickbox all the time on them.
As far as "stable,"do you mean "won't move"? If so, the "secret" I've discovered is to just cover the whole area, making sure there is a solid support (a piece of furniture, like my sofa, a wall, a pile of weights) around the outside of the mats so they won't shft).

I have puzzle mats ON TOP of the cement basement floor, but UNDER a scrap of carpet pad and a scrap of carpet. Lots of padding and easy on the knees. I have been working out on carpet forever, so I am used to how it feels. No twisted ankles or problems so far!!!

I use puzzle mats on the basement floor too. I worked out on carpet for a long time and I really felt it torque my knees. It was ok only if I did no turning, but just a few turns and my knees started complaining. Everyone is different, the carpet really killed my knees.

Thanks for asking this question...and for those that answered. I've been working out to Cathe for over 9 months, and all 9 months have been on the concrete floor in my basement. Fortunately, I haven't had any knee problems....BUT every once in a while my knees start to get that 'achy' feeling when I go up or down steps. That's when I lower my step height to 6" from my usual 8". I just bought 16 large puzzle mats and this weekend I am moving my basement around to better accomodate all the exercise equipment I've got. Thanks for all the input.

Thanks, Kathryn.

I was wondering if the puzzle mats would be too cushy for aerobic stuff, but it sounds like they're working out just fine you.
