What type of barbell do you use with your squat rack?

Rhonda...can you adjust the rack to bring the uprights closer together (the picture makes it look like you can't)? If not, then maybe you should measure the distance from hook to hook (where the barbell rests, sorry don't know the techy term) and then shop for a barbell that will work. Do you have any used sporting good stores around you so you could get a cheaper used one?

I had the same problem so I had to go to a 6ft barbell which I got from this site: http://www.adamantbarbell.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=126_146&products_id=683

They have other lengths too. http://www.adamantbarbell.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=126_146

I also ordered the spring clips came to about $55.00 total.

I had a similar problem w/ a different model, and my husband took the center bar to a machining-shop where they cut the center bar shorter and then bolted it back together, which narrowed the distance between the uprights.

Mine, however had a split in the center bar to put it together when I bought it; so I'm not sure whether that would work for your model.

You do not have to switch to an Olympic barbell (uses plates with 2" holes) if you don't want to. There are 6 and 7 foot "standard" (1" thick bars) available, which would then be long enough to fit across your squat rack. Then you wouldn't have to buy a whole new set of plates.

However, if you do want to buy an Olympic barbell, you do not have to get the usual 20kg (~44 lb) or 45 pound one. They make lighter ones (for example 15kg, about 33 lb) that are sometimes called women's bars.
