What to get a ten year old boy?

HI my son is 10 and I have no IDEA what to get him for Christmas. He is past the toy era. He is already getting a couple of video games and 2 outfits but other than that I am stumped!

He loves soccer (already has a ton of balls) breakdancing and playing video games. Wants an ipod but I think he is too young.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks in advance,
Laura

My sons are 6 and 3, so I'm not sure, but I did get my nephew, who is 9 a Pirate-themed birthday gift that he loved. I didn't get him the movie (because he already has it-- and I'm not sure if he's even old enough for it). But I got him a build-your-own pirate ship set at Barnes & Noble and a pirate card game at Target.
The game Cranium is great, and they have all sorts of spin-offs for kids.
I also gave my boys a planetarium for their room (even though the package said for ages 8 and up). It's really neat. It shows the stars (which they like), but you can also set it to show the constellations and the planets.
Maybe instead of an ipod, give him an itunes gift-card and let him download tunes and burn his own mix CD?
And maybe a subscription to a soccer magazine (I don't know if there are any age-appropriate ones out there)?
Just some ideas... I dread the pre-teen years. I know they must be really hard to buy for then. Right now we're into Ben 10 and Pokemon.

Laura, I have an 11 yr. old boy and I got him an ipod shuffle last Christmas. It's affordable, about $75, and he still has it and loves it a year later.

I don't suggest the Ipod shuffle. It's very hard for someone to know what song you are going to listen to because it doesn't have a screen to view the songs downloaded on it. This one was very frustrating to my kids--they hated it. If you want a MP3 player and dont want to spend that much, then its worth getting an off brand so you have an on-screen menu to view your songs.
I also have a 10 year old boy and this is what was on his list: BB gun, gaming chair, RC helicopter, nerf guns (these are fun), guitar hero, the game Trouble, and new Heely's.
I hope this helps you!

My three son's all loved playing with legos at that age. They are now 23,21, and 17 and when they get together they STILL play with them together!

MY kids loved LEGOS for years. I 'caught' DS age 14 playing with his collection that is stored away in a closet after I took away PS2. (PS2 is on hold until after he does well on his midterms) DS age 20 had his lego collections displayed in his room until age 19 when we moved. If we had not moved, they would still be displayed!!!! And he will still tinker with them now and again.

We did a lot of book giving too.

He is at a good age for Chronicles of Narnia.

Thanks everyone for all your ideas! I am going shopping this weekend so anymore ideas to ponder?

My son is 10 and worked for my Mom this summer doing outside chores. He saved his money and bought himself an iPod Nano. He loves it and takes it everywhere. Thankfully, he lets Mom use it on her walks;)

For some reason, the men in our family, including the small ones love flashlights of all shapes and sizes. I found neato little LED ones this year. Some that clip onto whatever and some bigger ones that go on a key chain. I like that they last a long time without having to invest in new batteries.

Good books are always on my list. Or if he's not really into reading, a good book on CD or something.

Have fun!

Maggie:)

My DS is 7. We got him the battleship game, RC Helicoters that can fight each other (DH is very excited about these), and the I can play guitar ( I am excited about this one) What about a bike? Does he need a new one? Or any of his favorite movies?
