What to eat?

Ok I hate to say this, But I can't stand oatmeal! tried to get used to and I can't so I have been kind of skipping breakfast or eating an english muffin with some hot cocoa. and then I don't eat a thing till lunch and then I have some ham or turkey on honey wheat bread with some fat free chips and a coke and then again I wait till dinner to eat, but I do chew gum or eat an orange in between meals. I have gained the pound back that I have lost. I am not an active person the most active thing I do is workout in the morning other then that I clean the house and then sit on the computer or watch some TV while I crochet or cross stitch.

Oh, how I envy you - being so disciplined with your eating!!!

Have you tried other hot cereals? If you haven't, maybe try one. Find one with high protein, high fiber content(I add Splenda to taste as I'm a sweet freak). If you don't like hot cereal, do you like eggs? Maybe try All Bran dry cereal.

Some considerations...

I love raisin Bran Cereal, and I am not that disciplined, I splurged yesterday badly! had two taco's and a churro and then I had a piece of cake that my mother in law made for me. Oh the guilt that is wreaking my mind LOL. I love eggs. I too am a sweet freak, I do have a 3 muskateers at night.

My stomach can't tolerate oats, so I have a similar thing made from millet or a combination of millet and rice. It contains slow digesting carbs, similar to oatmeal. You can buy it in the UK ready mixed, or buy the ingredients separately. (Try the wheat/gluten free range in your supermarket.) You cook it in the same way and it looks similar to oatmeal (we call it porridge in the UK). But, it has a slightly different flavour.

Also, have you tried different types of milk - soya milk and rice milk make hot cereals taste very different to normal milk. You have to play around with the cooking times though.

Oh boy Leslie your by far not eating enough at all; that's why you gained a pound. Over on the thread "Breakfast Ideas" there's a wonderful casserole that I would suggest you make. It sounds so YUMMY! Also you can make a 1 whole egg + 2 egg white omelette w/diced up tomato, peppers & FF cheese (shredded) w/1/2 baked potato & topped off w/salsa. If you can eat 5-6 small meals a day that would be better for you but unfortunately not everyone can do this. Its just not for them so if its not for you then I would suggest you eat a small handful of nuts w/a piece of fruit for a snack. For lunch try eating a large salad put in a lot of veggies to your preference & top it off w/either tuna, chicken or beef. Then in the afternoon have a little bit of cottage cheese mixed w/chunky applesauce and then dinner. By having more fiber in your diet, believe you me you won't want to eat that 3 Musketeers bar. I oughta know those are my FAVORITES & I haven't had one in years. HTH & Good luck! Kathy

I also think you're not eating enough!
Cut out: chips, coke, gum. Add veggies (for fiber and nutrients). Keep some apples around for a snack (good fiber as well, more than an orange). You didn't say what you eat for dinner. Is that because you are ravenous by then, and stray from your otherwise spartan eating plan?

Do you actually mean you've gained "the pound" back, singular? Our weights can vary by a couple of pounds depending on how hydrated we are, what time of day we weigh ourselves, and if we've gone to the bathroom yet.

My day of eating is like this, I get up at 4 am or 5:30 am and have a cup of hot cocoa then an hour later I get a cup of orange Juice for my vitamins and eat a piece of whole wheat bread or a muffin with it. then after I exercise I will eat an orange or two. then I wait till lunch and eat the ham or turkey sandwich with chip and at dinner I will eat small portions of what ever I cooked for the rest of the family. also to mention I am not the worlds greatest cook LOL. so it is either spaghetti which I will use the wheat spaghetti for me and my husband, or it is seasoned potatoes with some meat with it and frozen vegitables. then before bed it is a 3 Muskateer bar for a treat. every now and then I will splurge and eat a taco or a hamburger for lunch instead. I am not real good at getting my healthy eating figured out.

A good book to get a feel for general good eating is "Picture perfect Weight Loss" (though the title says "weight loss," it's also good for maintaining a healthy weight and for eating healthfully). It's got a lot of pictures in (yummy looking) that show foods of equal calorie count, but with nutritional differences. Ie: One side of the page shows a corn muffin and the opposite side shows a whole pineapple, a bunch of grapes, a pear or two, some plums, and two wheat rolls. They are calorically equivalent, but the fruit and roll side has much more fiber and other nutrients. The choice of what to eat is up you you, but you can see that you can eat well without depriving yourself.
