Hello there! I do what I call a "modified Atkins". A friend told me it was very similar to the Zone diet, or the Atkins once you hit the maintenance phase. I don't know because I have not really read any of those books. I just read about them! Basically I eat as few carbs as possible, reading labels etc., by cutting white flour things. Bread, cookies, crackers, rice, potatos.....that sort of thing. I will eat any and all veggies, and fruit, though I do try to eat more of the fruit that is allowed, like berries. I like to think that produce is healthy so that is why I love it, and eat it. Then of course there is protein. I have no problem eating meat, but with summer it is nicer to just have an incredible salad.
Hopefully this is heathy. I did check with my nurse practioner, and she supported what I am doing. She hates anything really radical, and felt what I was doing is fairly safe, though she did suggest that I might add whole grain somewhere. She felt that cutting all the breads, grains included, might not be a great idea, but I am trying to lose weight (fat) and personally feel I could lose at least ten pounds.
In another post I lamented how I have not lost a single pound, yet I have dropped inches. In spite of everything, whatever is coming off is slow and they say that is ultimately the best way. Oh to have patience!
Take care,
Dannette
