Heres my situation. I provide childcare for working parents from my home. I have a parent who has been with me for about five months and has been on time paying me for childcare. About a week ago her family went on vacation to Hawii for two weeks. The week the she left it was pay day for me, she ask if I could hold the check for a week before a deposit. I say sure, no problem, even though I was also going on vacation for a couple of days to San Diego. It will be paid day again this Friday coming up, and I just got an email from her telling me that the check I deposit is going to bouce. I have already done some debits! She also told me she will not be able to cover for this week and the check the will bounce all at once, and that she would paid me for the bounce charges when her husband gets a full time job. Ok, I don't know what to do! Because we also whent on a trip I'm low on cash. I trusted her and was considerate to wait one week before I deposit her check even thogh I was going on a trip myself. Help any advice would greatly be appreciated! Thank you!

I totally understand your situation. I am a Registered childcare provider myself. Unfortunately theirs not much to do. This kind of thing happends time to time when you are in buisness for yourself. I had one parent not pay me for the last week their child was in care. He told me 2 or 3 times he would get it to me, but nothing ever happend. The only thing you can do is wait and see if she comes through. If not hey, buisness is buisness and no one works for free.

From what I understand the check I deposited on Saturday is going to bounce againsts my account. Should She be charge for my fee charges? I wish I could help her out and say you know what don't worry about it. But I myself have five children. I keep a low ratio, for this parents that requested low ratio, and when they tell me the check is going to bounce and that they cant cover for the next pay day, its very fustrating. That wil make her 4 weeks behind. Thanks for your advice!

I think you should tell her that if she can't pay, you will have to give her spot to another family who can pay. I mean, where are her priorities? She can pay for a Hawaiian vacation, but not childcare? It's really not fair to all of the parents who pay you on-time. I think it's pretty selfish and irresponsible on her part. Childcare is a stretch for most parents, but you finesse your budget to accommodate it. It's just part of being a grown-up. Sorry if I'm being too tough on your client/friend, but I just think it's absurd.

Request that she pay all of your fees incurred as a result of her bouncing the check and everything that she owes prior to whatever date you choose (soon), in writing by certified mail. If she doesn't, it's time to give someone else her place in your childcare center. She's abused your kindness and taken advantage of your business. Even if there is nobody to replace her in your childcare business, it isn't as if you are making any money on her now & you have no assurance that she will do it again.
