What to do with evening bag during party

I have a question about how to manuver during a dinner party. Cocktails will be served prior to dinner. How do I handle my evening bag during drinks? Should I buy an evening clutch so I can hold it under my arm? Or should I buy a bag with a little handle and carry it on my arm while holding the drink? Can the bag and drink be held with the same arm? And what do I do with the bag during dinner? Is it appropriate to set it on the table? What do I do with the bag if I get up to dance?

I know this sounds silly but I am nervous and want to handle myself well.

I am horrible at this so I should probbaly not even be responding! I tend the throw my bag down and party harty while it sits on my chair. Truth is that there is never anything in it anyway (BF carreis my ID and I just carry make up freshners) so who cares if it happens to grow legs and walk away!

If you don't like my "method," I would say that you should get one that you can hold with your non-drinking hand or ona small shouldere strap and that if you dance, either put someone in charge of it, leave it with your date's jacket or place it on your chair.

Oh, Madonna, I feel for ya! This is one reason I hate going out. I live in a small mountain town and can feel overdressed in a nice sweater. I cannot imagine the agony of how to carry a purse! Sorry I am not much help, but hopefully someone empathizing and telling you this is not a silly question will help;-) I also hope someone else will help you out with a good ettiquite answer...personally, I would go with the strappy bag that hangs on a shoulder, but small enough not to get in the way. ID, ATM card, small amount of cash and the ever important lipstick!!

Madonna, your bag should be only large enough to house your lipstick/licence and cellphone, maybe powder. Does your cellphone case match better than your purse?!!! That's pretty much why they can get so stylish. Yes hold on to it at every occasion unless you are at a table. You then place it at your side or lap(under the napkin).

Whatever you do, do not place it on the table. I don't know what will happen if you do, but so far I haven't & all has been well.

What if I didnt carry a purse at all and put my lipstick in my husband"s jacket pocket?

Would that look strange that I didnt have some kind of purse?

It would not look strange but sometimes a woman feels uncomfortable not holding a purse. Almost like a feeling of nakedness. If you're alright then go for it.
