What to do with ALL these tomatoes????

This is way weird, but when I was little my mom used to make jam out of tomatoes, but it tasted like strawberry jam!!! I ate it til I found out that it was 'maters. I was picky back then, but as I recall it was really good. Unfortunately, my mom is deceased and I don't have the recipe. Maybe you could Google it? Or even try FoodTv or AllRecipes for some different tomato recipes.

How about some homemade tomato soup. You need 'maters, liquid - broth, water, milk, a blender/food processor and a good strainer for any missed seeds if you don't want to pick them out of your teeth. Basically seed and chop the tomatoes, simmer in the liquid, pop in the blender and blend til as thin or thick as you like it. If you like it chunky don't blender. Add anything you want for seasoning. I like sea salt, pepper, fresh garlic and onion and a little basil. Add other fresh veggies and you've got veggie soup. You can freeze it in plastic bags or containers, just leave a little head space at the top so you don't blow the lid off when it freezes.

Nan, you're cracking me up with the "'maters."

It reminds me of a musician friend of DH's, who once came up with the band name "Who Throwed that 'Mater." It still cracks me up. He never used it, though; he thought better of using a name that might provoke a crowd of drunks into pelting them with produce, whether they deserved it or not.
