What the "hecks" up with with clothing sizes these days?

sizes have changed. Marilyn Monroe was a perfect size 14. And she was NO WAY a size 14 by todays standards. She was more an 8. SO that is a BIG difference. If you look at patterns they have correct measurements on sizes. I wear about 4 sizes bigger on patterns. Those are supposed to be 'true' sizes.
