What makes you call it a night (day)?

I was going to do SH legs and shoulders tonight. Came home with my usual after-work tiredness; had a small snack and started to workout, but I got through the warmup and started on the first set and was just dragging. Usually I can work past that after-work tired feeling, but tonight it wouldn't go away. I was actually dreading the workout, so I gave up--and of course now that I'm sitting at my computer again I have more energy and feel guilty! :p

Anyhow, the whole thing made me wonder what sort of things make others here not do a planned workout?

being tired or sore or just plain lazy. also, when i am just too busy to get one in and then i run out of time. i always tell myself that i will make up for it later, but that never happens!

If I start a planned workout but just can't get into it, I then usually switch to something that is so fun I won't want to stop.

I get that feeling sometimes during a warm-up that I would rather do ANYTHING else. What helps me (most of the time) is to get a big plastic grin on my face and picture myself as a fitness model. That is my goal muscle wise so the motivation gets me over that hump. Of course, it doesn't always work, but I'm far from perfect!

Activities and incidents pertaining to my boy -- school stuff, illnesses, occupational therapy sessions... Also insomnia. Or a really bad cough/cold, allergy attack or sinus infection.

I didn't do my workout last night because my daughter shut her thumb in the car door. By the time I got her calmed down, my window of opportunity for getting the workout done and having dinner at a reasonable time was past. Also, if I'm super tired, I will change around the schedule. Take my rest day on the day I'm tired and workout on the day that was going to be my rest.

Also, if my husband suggests going out to dinner - well...that usually calls for a blow-off of exercise.

Oof on the thumb, Donna. I had that happen to me when I was a teenager. Hurt like mad. Try icing it? I remember that helped.

Anyhow, I usually push past feeling lazy and tired, but I think I'm fighting a cold this week. My problem is I have a ton of allergies and a reactive nose, and I'm *always* worried that I'm getting sick. So it's hard to know if I'm just lazy or sick....drives me nuts.

I just listen to my body. If I don't get enough sleep, then I don't feel as strong and cannot push myself to the degree that I should. I haven't been sick at all this winter so that hasn't stopped me from working out. So it is usually lack of sleep or PMS'n that throws a rod in my workout day, but not today!!!!

This is one of the reasons I work out in the morning. It seems if I try to do my workouts after life begins, things get in the way. Also, if I can't get to my workouts in the A.M., I only have me to blame. I know this isn't possible for everyone but it was the solution for me.:)

Sometimes I will skip a planned work out if I am REALLY tired or if I'm plain old not in the mood but most times it's because I have made plans that will interfere with my work out time. When any of these things happen, I try to make that day my rest day for the week so that I don't actually MISS an extra day of exericse...

Have a great work out!

This is why I have to workout in the morning. In the evening, after work, I just want to relax. Sometimes in the morning, if I get started and am not excited about going on, I will switch to something else to at least try to get 30 minutes of activity in. Some days are harder than others, though!! If I don't sleep well, there is no way I can get up at 4:30 to workout.

A long day at work usually does me in. I frequently miss my mid-week lifting workout b/c I end up working later than I planned. I always make it to the gym on the weekends, but if I don't make it to the gym by 6:00 on a weeknight I don't make it at all.

Also sometimes I miss my early morning weekday cardio if I'm having my sleepus interruptus problems. If I wake up at 3 & don't get back to sleep until 6, I usually can't get up at 6:15 to do the cardio.

Yes, we iced it. She has a "boo-boo bear" in the freezer for these kinds of emergencies. Fortunately, she didn't close the door completely. It still had a bit of space, so it didn't do any more damage than just a little bruise.

I usually can push past the tiredness, but if I am actively yawning while warming up and during the first section, then it may be touch and go and I may have to stop shortly because it's just not worth it.

Sometimes it is my mood that makes me cut it short. For example, if I feel so down, so depressed that I can't see the point and what I really want to do is baath and delve down into my bed, then, I will stop early.

Usually though, what makes me miss a workout is my kids' after school activities. I have to be strong and disciplined to make sure I do my exercise after their swimming/judo classes if I haven't manaaged to do it earlier in the day.

On Tuesday, I was about to work out when I noticed that my 11 year old was all pooped out on the couch and falling asleep and so we nestled together for a cuddle for a while. Since she is getting older and we don't cuddle so much anymore, I gave up my workout for the sake of hugging my daughter as she fell asleep, just as I used to do when she was a wee babe.

In this situation, I will really try to figure out if I can do a workout. This is why I really try to get my workouts done in the morning now. When I leave for work, it is done, out of the way and not a burden later. Even wiht that, there are mornings when this happens. In fact, it happened two mornings ago! I usually will try to at least do the warm up. If I get through it and still dread the workout, I usually just bag it or I switch to a workout that I love. It doesn't happen often but when it does, I just chalk it up to my body needing a rest or me needing something fun or motivating. Tuesday mornign I was draeding PlyoX from the moment I got out of bed (actually before that too!), so I did the warm up. I still wanted to land on the couch so I switched to a different workout. I as glad that I did it b/c I ended up with a pretty good workout and had fun instead of dreading it the whole time (and probably not having a good workout).

Just wanted to say, she will remember that day. I also had a my fingers caught in the car door. Hurt like I won't forget. Darn car doors.

I was iced and hugged. That calls for a day off for me.:) lol

Peace
