What it says on a box of sugar....

"Sugar is a 100% natural simple carbohydrate. Carbohydrates are an important part of any balanced diet. Sugar contains no fat or cholesterol and has 15 carlories per teaspoon."

So it sounds to me like an attempt to convince the public that sugar is HEALTHY!?!?

Now don't get me wrong...I am using sugar in my coffee right now as I ran out Splenda for the moment. I am no angel. There is sugar in my diet and always will be to some extent... Luckily though I am not gullible enough to believe that is an integral part of a healthy diet!

I am surpised that no one found this amusing but me!

Hmmm...see what eating too much sugar can do to one's brain!?

ROTFLMAO! :7 :7 :7 :7

Are you bored tigadoo? Reduced to reading sugar boxes,eh? ;)

LOL! Yes, I love how we are convinced that everything is soooo healthy for us.

*leaves to munch a box of sugar*

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is.

I don't know about you but I'm ready to start the sugar diet!! What should I call it...how 'bout The Sugar Revolution!! Oh waiter, can I have some baked sugar, no oil, with a side of melted sugar please?
:)

ROTFLMAO! I think I'll be having some sugar encrusted salmon with a side of asparagus w/a sugar sauce over the top for dinner tonight! YUMMO! :9

:p

Too funny Wendy!! You know this reminds me of when I was a kid and used to eat sugar sandwiches. Seriously! I would spread WHITE bread with BUTTER and sprinkle SUGAR on top! I can't even think of it now without feeling a little ill. But I guess I was just eating super clean!:) :)

ETA: I fed them to my little sister too (pixiesis). I'm sure she appreciated the jump start to clean eating!

100% NAUTRAL well by golly it MUST be healthy.

yeah they are right carbs are important part of a balanced diet, but thought the pyramid was referring to carbs like WHOLE WHEAT, and FRUITS, and VEGETABLES and carbs that don't break down and store as fat.

its true sugar is always going to be part eating in today's world(LOVE FROSTED FLAKES!!!!), but like you i will not fall for this. to me it just says that these companies think they most consumers must be that "stupid" to fall for their comments. how insulting on their behalf.

You're not the only one who finds that funny. I noticed the exact same thing last weekend when I saw an ad/coupon for sugar---my favorite part of the ad was the line "...only 15 calories per teaspoon". Um, yeah, because there's what, only 1 or 2 teaspoons in cakes, cookies, and all the other baked goods I should make with that sugar????

I think splenda is sugar that has been treated with chlorine or something. Yeah, it's definately a natural health food! :p
Carolyn: those butter/sugar sandwich's were the best! Crunchy, sugary, buttery! Should I start adding them to my ETL diet? I'm sure Dr. Fuhrman would approve, because what could be healthier than white bread, white sugar, and butter? Where was Mom when you were making us those sandwiches? LOL!
Amy

We used to eat the butter with sugar on bread as kids too. Wow! How funny. I forgot all about those until this post.

I honestly do believe that sugar is healthier than artificial sweeteners. I don't think any lab rats have gotten cancer from sugar--fat and rotted teeth--but no cancer. And I live in sugar beet country, so I feel compelled to mention that sugar sales have declined since Splenda and they are really just trying to compete.:)

I agree Muffintop. Sometimes I feel like artificial sugars are taking over the world. The other day I saw canned fruit that had a "low carb" label because they used splenda in the juice. Weird...and gross.

I saw on the MSNBC website an article talking about Splenda. It advertises Made from sugar tastes like sugar when in fact it is chemically made. Ingredients:dextrose, maltodextrin & sucralose. Doesn't sound like "real sugar" does it?:)

I will always have some sugar in my diet too. I started drinking diet pepsi when I wanted a soda because of no/low calories but I also know that all it is - is "nasty-junk". So I start thinking if I want a soda I just need to take in the calories and sugar and have the real thing!!!:7
