My name is angella and I am a 28 year old mother with two year old. I have been struggling with my weight and can't seem to return to my pre-pregnancy weight. I have purchased a step which included Cathe's DVD "Basic Step" for home training and have been committed to doing it for about a week now, and I am enjoying it so. I am familiar with step aerobics from attending classes in the past at my local fitness center. I guess my question is how long do you think it will take before I can advance to intermediate/advanced and which DVD/VHS do you recommend that will give me an overall body workout?:)

Hi Angella!

First things first....who ever returns to pre-prego weight?:) Just kidding.Im not there though:-( And thats 10 yrs ago now.
I am 27 yrs old and I had my daughter when I was finishing grade 12.And I haven't had one since!
Well, I was a little like you.I had always been active growing up and although I hated gym class, I use to do aerobics at home. After I had my daughter I sort of didn't do anything for a while.I then moved, went to collage, meet Dh and packed on 15 lbs:eek:
I started out my running. It was only 5 kms but it did wonders. Then I bought a step and a tape and I think I did the same tape everyday:eek: I can't imagine doing that now.
It didn't take me to long to see the benefits b/c I ate really well.I stopped eating when I was comfortable, I didn't eat anything in the evening, gave up pop and junk, ate 3 meals and 1 snack a day and I would say within a couple of monthes I was look'in good.
You have to stick with it and try not to look at the # on the scale.Even if you are doing step you will get some muscle in your legs.If you have pre-preggo jeans, then try squeezing back into those.Use clothes as your guide.
I think it would be hard for anyone to tell you how long it is going to take to reach your goal, b/c no one knows how much weight you have to lose, how tall you are, or how fast your metobolism is.
Good luck,
Lori:)

not cathe, but wanted to jump, hope she doesn't mind,

well first off you have to give it time. you didn't gain the weight overnight so you will not lose it overnight. as for moving on to more challenging workouts that is up to your comofort level. if you feel you are ready then try her newer low impact step dvd(also include a body sculpting workout). there are also 3 premixes so its like 5 workouts in one. then from there move on to more and more challenging workouts. also your nutrition, please make sure you are fueling your body with healthy choices for food and drink lots of water. and just to add cathe sells her basic step dvd on this site with 4 other workouts so you might consider getting that and low impact step/body sculpting. and work with those then when you feel ready you can move onto to more intensity and more complex choregraphy. her choreography is so fun to learn while getting a great workout.
