What is your favorite fitness magazine?

What is the name of your favorite fitness magazines?

I have been getting Shape (for about 12 years)and Fitness (for about 3 years) but I am growing tired of them. I have been getting Fitness RX for about 6 months and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Any other suggestions for an exercise enthusiast?

I was very surprised at how "skinny" the last issue was/is! But it seems to have about the same amount of ads as previously.

I don't absolutely love any fitness magazines anymore. I used to love Energy for women, but they stopped publication. I liked the original incarnation of M&F Hers, then absolutely hated what it turned into for a few months (basically a clone of all the other "fitness" magazines). I'm reserving judgement on the latest version of it, but I like it so far. I also like Women's FitnessRX.

With any fitness magazine, they seem to repeat the same info over and over.

I subscribe to Fitness and M&F Hers. I don't care for Fitness anymore, its getting to be very non-working-out-related if you ask me. They promote more skin care and makeup then they do workouts. I like M&F Hers but I agree, it is a little thinner than usual. I love the pictures they have in that magazine. I purchased Fitness RX and to me, it looks more like a Playboy magazine than a workout magazine. This issue with Alicia Denson (Dec. 2004) in it, to me she doesn't look like someone who is a hardcore workout person and her pictures look ridiculous with those high heels on. My husband asked me why I was reading a Playboy magazine. How embarrassing!!!

Thanks everyone for mentioning Oxygen. I'd never even heard of that one before and like FitnessFreak, I'm getting tired of Shape. Seems like the latst 2 issues were all fashion, no exercise. If I wanted that - I'd get Vogue!

I'll get Oxygen instead when it's time to renew my subscription to Shape.

I was pretty disgusted with the December issue as well because it had a 4 page advertisement spread with her promoting diet pills, then later featured her as Decembers "Goddess", where she mentioned using diet pills. I am convinced she has butt implants;) .

Oxygen is my favorite. I pick up M&F Hers some times and every so often M&F. I used to get the others but found the articles not so motivating, which is why I buy fitness magazines.

WD, I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have pulled you onto my thread! One of the biggest reasons I converted from a "lurker" to a "participator" on this forum is because of you. I just had to tell you how awesome you look! Truely amazing! The first time I saw your pictures (about a month ago), I spent the rest of the evening mumbling to myself "I hope like crazy I look that amazing and beautiful when someone is calling me Grandma"! Then, the next day, you were my motivation during my workout. Thinking of you, I pushed a little harder. Thanks so much!

Oh yea, I forgot to mention the diet pills she was promoting. How ridiculous to do that in a fitness magazine. I just was so turned off by that. Oh well, I guess I don't have to buy it anymore.

Oxygen is a great magazine and all the models are healthy and you can tell they work out and know what they are talking about. I also have read Women's health and fitness it is farely new so it has been good so far. I too am tired of shape and fitness.

Oxygen is sitting on my desk right now. I don't subscribe to any others and almost always have a copy with me in case I catch a moment to read :)

Thanks so much. I know I was a lurker from way back when Cathe had around 200 total posts here. It took a long time before I came out and said something. I love learning from other's experiences. I am glad I drew you out of lurking. I used to lurk on the old Firm site as well and put up a few posts. I have found it great that you can actually ask those questions you always wonder about and get other's answers. Cathe has been great about answering as well. Welcome. And wow I feel so flattered!!!

I always thought that Fitness RX was published by the makers of diet pills etc because all of the adds and some of the articles which are like infomercials. I think it is trash. I like Oxygen alot.

You're right about how it looks like a porn mag at first glance. I was taking mine home from work one day. I dropped it on the ground while I was walking with my friend. She looked startled & said she thought is was porn at first.

But I still think it is a good magazine. It's got a lot of good info & it's condensed. I also like how they encourage healthy eating with the Mediterranean diet. They have to pay bills hence the supplement ads but I don't ever recall any article where they promote the diet pills.

Shape & Fitness are lame. They rehash the same old articles.
