What is your experience with joints?

...the kind in your body, that is. :)

Last spring I injured my left elbow (from putting too much torque in my kickbacks for too many years, I think). I also had some issues with my left shoulder and my left knee. I eased back on activity and took anti-inflammatories and they seem ok. However, now my left ankle is bothering me. I was doing a cardio cycle in HSTA this AM when I felt a sudden, SHARP pain in my left achilles tendon which was followed by a loss of strength. I immediately stopped the workout and it no longer hurts, but this is not the first time I have felt that.

Anyway, does anyone else think this is weird? I am starting to wonder if maybe one of my legs is longer than the other, or if there is some other issue. I HAVE driven a standard for years, so maybe my left side is weak from all those years of riding the clutch in stop-go traffic on the highway. :) (You think it would be the opposite, though!)

Seriously, I am going to make an appt with a sports medicine doctor, but I am wondering if anyone has any feedback to offer...

Thanks,
Marie

Hi, Marie,

I have knee pains after I started workout this Mar. I went to see Physical Therapy first. She did the valuation. She said most people developed joint pain was caused by weak muscles. But that is not my case. I have strong muscles, quads, calves, and hamstrings. But my muscles are very tight. The differences of tightness caused unbalance of my joint when I workout. I also have very flat feet. Then I went to see my Othopedics. X-ray shows nothing wrong with my knees joints. I have tendonitis. Now I am taking anti flammatory medicine. My PT prescribed me to do some stretches to increase those muscle groups flexibility. I think it is good idea to see your Sports Medicine Doctors, then take from there. My orthopedics told me that inflammatory in the join areas are very common among young ladies (I don't think I am young, I am 38).

Sorry, not much help here.

Hi Marie,

I would recommend seeing a doctor or PT that specializes in sports medicine. I've been dealing with knee pain due to Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) for a while, and since it was properly diagnosed as PFPS by a PT back in May, I've been able to take steps to properly correct the imbalances I have in muscle strength and flexibility.

An evaluation of by a PT or doctor would be a great place to start.
