What is YOUR dream job?

Since I'm now seriously thinking about a career change, the best I could come up with is food/restaurant critic or fictional book editor. Unfortunately I am completely unqualified for either, other than liking to eat & read. :+

My 3rd preference is receptionist at a gym. That way I could work at a gym but not work very hard, socialize w/all the members & exercise whenever I wanted. Of course I AM qualified for that, but I have a suspicion I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage!

What about you guys? If you could pick any job in the world, what would it be?

Hey Laura - I'm glad you're going to pursue a possible change! Yay!

All of my dream jobs are like yours - they pay too low! Right now, I'd love to farm/sell organic food, but I can't afford to take that sort of risk. There might be money in it eventually, assuming I could make it work, but I'd probably worry myself to death during the first few years.

I have also been thinking about this because I have been pondering going to grad school. Ideally, I would like to work in a position where I don't have someone's life in my hands if I make a mistake. Also, I can leave at the end of my 'day' and not have to worry that the work isn't done, it'll be there when I get back the next day. Unfortunately, I know that I will find that boring all too soon as I really like the medical profession. I will probably end up becoming a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (what I really want to do!)

Travel writer
Music critic
Private Detective
Art Historian
Or some job where I'd sit in a library doing research all day.

theatre critic
soap opera actress
radio talk show host
television talk show host
chef
novelist

I would love to be a spa critic! Ahhhhhh
Or anything where I can give my unwanted opinions! ha

Oh, or a trainer for a pro sports team so I could stretch those hunky men! :)

Wow... I've been thinking about this a lot lately (since I've been miserable with my career for months now). For me, it's either a book editor or interior decorator... Also, not "qualified" for either, but identifying what you'd "LIKE" to do is some sort of starting point, right?

I was on this website yesterday called fabjob.com and I bought the FabGuide to Become a Book Editor, as well as the FabGuide to Become an Interior Decorator. I won't have time to start reading until the weekend so I'm not certain that they'll turn out to be worthwhile investments, but it couldn't hurt. The more research the better..

Hey Amelia - I'll write, and you shoot the photos! Being a National G correspondent would be wonderful!

You know this is my problem. I don't know what a dream job would be for me. I have a degree in social work which was the field I worked in 7 yrs ago. I have been a SAHM now for 7 years. It's time for me to get back out there, part time, but I just don't know what to do. I kind of liked Laura's idea of health club receptionist though and since I don't really have to earn that much money. Hmmm maybe I'll look into it. Thanks Laura!

My dream job would be a keeper at a zoo. I would love to up and quit this job, go to veterinarian school and then intern somewhere at a zoo. Don't see that happening anytime soon though... :/

I saw an add (and applied for it) for a person to hike the Bay Area trails and report back any problems on them. The person would also organize events that encouraged the use of the trails, and taught proper hiking techniques, back packing, trail etiquette and what to watch for. That would be my ideal job. But, it was part time, and I never heard back. :(

I would also love to be a park ranger - but the hours are horrid...

Liann - that's what my DD14 wants to do. She's planning on studying Zoology and then take a course offered through the San Deigo Zoo.

I used to say "restaurant critic" but the truth is there are too many things I'm just not willing to eat anymore (I don't enjoy very rich or very sweet foods in my old age), and wine doesn't agree with me anymore, so I really don't drink.

I have a dream of having some kind of job working with adolescent girls and young women to help them deal with all the emotions of being an adolescent and to help them deal with all the choices regarding education and college and career paths, etc. Youth was difficult for me, and I had no guidance of any kind, yet I was ultimately able to get on my feet and make a success of my life. I'd love to help someone else the way I would have wanted to be helped.
