What Is Wrong With This Picture?

BelovedHeather

Cathlete
I ordered Dr. Fuhrman’s new Eat for Health books from Amazon and received my package Wednesday. The 2 books were packaged with a bunch of ads and sealed with shrinkwrap. Included with these books were coupons for a free Southern style chicken biscuit from McDonald’s and a free Southern style chicken sandwich from McDonald’s. Hello! Is this supposed to be the last binge before people start this way of eating? I have never been a fan of McDonald’s, but the picture of the biscuit is very enticing as I have a weakness for Southern food. Cracker Barrel is so much better, so I can resist this temptation. ;-) Why on earth would coupons for free processed junk be included with books on eating for health? Dr. Fuhrman needs to talk to the marketing department at Amazon!

There is something very sick about sending blatant temptation to people who are ordering books like this and seeking to break free from food addictions and reclaim their health. Being bombarded with food commercials is bad enough, but including something like this inside the shrinkwrap with these books is wrong on so many levels. It was not loose in the box either. It was wrapped up with these books. Does Amazon send coupons for free a margarita to people who order books on overcoming alcoholism?

Lead me not into temptation. I can find it all by myself.

Blessings,
Heather B.

It's kind of like all the fitness magazines with all these crazy diet pill ads in them. I think most of these books/magazines will put in whatever ads extra $$$. Not the smartest marketing ploy, but it's a business first & foremost, so I guess for whatever reason it still works for them. Nuts.

A penny for your thoughts? Let me get you some change.

LOL Heather. This doesn't surprise me at all. Haven't you figured out yet that it's all just one giant stinkin' conspiracy!? This country does everything in it's power to tempt you, to keep you eating junk, to keep you overweight and unhealthy so that it can then turn around and sell all of it's weight loss products to you! Ofcourse these products will not work if you don't stop eating the cr@p (and some just don't work at all! LOL) but they don't care cause they are making tons of money off of you. They treat us like rats trapped in a maze! Thankfully CATHEITES always their way out!;)

Heather you are way too funny!

Lead me not into temptation. I can find it all by myself.

I love it!

And how (sadly) true.

Andrea

Hi Heather,

I could have written this about 3 weeks ago. I ordered New Rules of Lifting for Women from Amazon and received the same coupons. I couldn't believe it! The sad part for me was that they really did look good and I thought "It's not a meal just a sandwich, how bad can it be"! I don't go to McDonalds much but I was very tempted to keep them "just in case". Then I looked at the book I just purchased, laughed and put them in the recycle bin! At least I did something good with the coupons!

Good Luck with your new book and put those coupons in the recycle bin where they belong!

Diane

Well Heather I would love to hear what you think of the books. I have them in my cart at amazon but haven't bought them yet. Think I will wait to hear your opinion. The libraries in my area don't have them yet. So let us know.

Oh brother. It really is an enormous American conspiracy.

My dad was recently in a heart hospital & I spent quite a bit of time there, so I was forced to eat their cafeteria food. Imagine my horror when I saw chicken fried steak as one of their daily specials.

I guess they're just trying to generate business & keep their profit margin up? :p

You know its funny you should say that. My FIL was in the hospital recently and he had some horrific looking pot pie thing. I was sitting their thinking esp a HOSPITAL, shouldn't they feed you the best nutrients to make you as healthy as you can be??

Heather,

You crack me up! I also got those coupons in an order of workout dvds, and had similar thoughts. However, I kept the coupons...I'm saving them for my kids, I promise. ;)

My kids have the right idea on all the marketing done on tv. They advertise pizza, etc. making your mouth water, then after you are fat on that, they advertise all kinds of gizmos, diets and supplements, then after you buy all that, they advertise debt consolidation, because you have over-spent on all of it. LOL!

I received this same coupon in my cable and internet bills. McD's must be sticking them everywhere.

I ordered these books recently too and got the same coupons. I thought it was sort of funny, seeing as how poisonous Dr Fuhrman views that type of food. I just threw them out.

(Heather, shred those coupons right this minute! LOL!)

We're living in a very litigious society...so sue them for emotional trauma and psychological damage!}(

It appears Amazon is putting these coupons in everything. I got them with some books unrelated to fitness, and a hairdryer and other random items.

I'm sure the coupons aren't from Dr. Fuhrman. I ordered the book directly from his website and didn't get those coupons.

Eat for Health

Phyllis:

I just skimmed through the books, so I cannot give you a detailed review at this time. I like what I have read so far and believe this is a good investment if you like Dr. Fuhrman’s writing style and way of eating. He basically breaks Eat to Live down into baby steps instead of having you dive in the deep end. It is a gentler transition to this lifestyle. You start by adding a few fruits and slowly eating a salad before dinner. As you transition to each new phase of this journey, you decrease your consumption of animal protein and grains and increase your consumption of fruits and veggies. He addresses the psychological roadblocks to change as well as overcoming addiction.

The second book is the recipe book. If you want to embrace the lifestyle Dr. Fuhrman teaches in Eat to Live but are struggling with the more radical approach in that book, this appears to be a more realistic and less intimidating approach for many people. The focus is on adding good food, which naturally displaces the junk.

Blessings,
Heather B.

>I'm sure the coupons aren't from Dr. Fuhrman.

I don't think anyone is under the impression that they are.;-)

Wow, talk about an oxymoron.:D Makes me wonder if Dr. Fuhrman knows about this. Hmmmm.

Love your saying "Lead me not into temptation. I can find it all by myself".:7 May I use that when I get tired of my saying?

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

I'm sure he doesn't, nor does he probably have a say in it.

(ETA: I just posted about his on his forum, so if he didn't know, he does now!)
