What is this pain in my heel?

Today I woke up with this pain in my heel. I runs up the bone from the heel. You know the part where the back of your shoes touch. It hurts that part of the back of my foot when I walk down stairs, or if I'm doing legs presses and it is the foot that is off the step. When I put down my leg during the presses, and I just come down on the ball of my foot and come up it hurts the back of my heel. Right know it hurts if I squat. I was supposed to do legs and glutes today, but it may have to floor work. I did kpc and kickmax mix up today while it was hurting this morning. Guess that wasn't very smart.

If anyone could tell me if they have ever had something similiar to this. And what did you do.

Let me know if this is too confusing to read. Had a tough day.

I had that happen to me once when I was doing a lot of step workouts. I would do step almost every day. I had that pain in my heel and started wearing gel heel inserts in my shoes. (both workout shoes and everyday shoes) The pain eventually went away.

Hi Danielle,

Could it be from not putting my foot all the way on the step. It is really weird how certain movements can trigger this. I know this morning when I was stretching and doing the move the downward dawg. With the back of my foot stretched like that the bone or ligament was hurting. One thought was that is could be step, and the other could be running on an incline. Should I avoid exercise movements that cause pain? I don't know If this is something that is no big deal.

Hi Kim,

I'm not quite sure, but I've been doing a lot of running lately and have no heel pain. The only time that happened was when I was doing step almost every day. But, it could have been from not putting my foot all the way on the step. I'm not sure. I stopped doing step every day and subbed in kickboxing or some other form of cardio. The gel inserts helped a lot too.

Yes, I remember the pain being very deep, feeling like it was in the bone. Yes, I'd avoid doing anything that's painful and try the gel inserts if you can. That's what helped me.

If it gets worse, definitely see the doc.

Good luck!

I wonder if we are talking about the same part of the heel. I have trouble explaining myself. I just found out that the part of the heel I was talking about is the acchillis tendon. I don't know if you meant the same thing. This thing really hurts. I only did floorlegs from legs and glutes and from PS legs. Don't you just hate it when things like this put a glitch in things.

Hope I haven't been too confusing.

This sounds a lot like the plantar fasciitis that I've been dealing with after a much longer run than usual. This is when the plantar facscia tendons that connect your heel to you toes become inflamed after a sudden increase in mileage, running downhill, wornout shoes, wearing a lot of highheels, or running on cement/concrete. It hurts worst first thing in the morning. If you do a google search for treatment options and stretches you'll get some really effective stretches that have helped me tremendously. Especially the one where you stretch your foot with a towel before you get out of bed in the morning (or in the middle of the night if you get up for any reason). This helps to keep the tendons from becoming reinflamed. Also, anti-inflammatory OTC meds, like aspirin or ibruprofen, as well as ice are great for relieving both the pain and the inflammation. I also got gel heel inserts, but I found that ones with attached arch support are the most effective for me.

Here's a link to search/discussions on this type of topic from these boards:

Hope this helps you pinpoint what is going on! And that you feel better soon!

Julie

Edited to say: Sorry, wrong link! Don't know why it didn't work. But if you go to search and type in "tendonitis", you'll get a lot of hits on this topic. HTH.

I am no expert, but maybe it is a heel spur??? I hope that you find out what it is and get it taken care of and soon! Don't do anything that isn't comfortable so that you don't injure yourself even more!

Hey Mattea,

The part I'm talking about is the bone on the back of heel that runs up toward the calves. Its that bone or tendon that runs along the back of the foot. Sorry to not be expaining myself well. I've also had Plantar Facscia and I had to stay out of work for a week. I stood on my feet alot.

I wondering how long this pain will last. I hate when I have to cut stuff out of exercising. But thats life.

Again I hope I haven't been a big pain.

Kim,
In my research I found that the symptoms of Plantar fasciitis can vary from the bottom of the heel to pain radiating along the back of the heel and up the calves. Mine actually started in my heel, moved into the area you are describing, and then back to the heel. It affects different people differently, the symptoms cover a range, and can be vary each time you have a flare up. Since you had it before, it might signal that you have it again. Try whatever helped you get rid of it last time and see if this alleviates the pain at all. I found that when the pain was up the back of my leg straight leg and then bent leg push ups against the wall were the most effective.
I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Mattea,

I had no idea this could be plantar fascis. I'm probably having a reoccurence. I just hate not being able to do cardio. I can lift weights but that is the same to me. This is the wrong time of year for this to happen.

Thanks for all your help.

Everyone thanks.
