What are your opinions on the best diet and exercise books out there?
I just ordered "bodybuilding 101" and "The Idiot's Guide to Weight Training"
I'm compliling a list of recommended reading.
What has changed your lives or been really informative?
Thanks!

"The G-Index Diet" taught me all about the glycemic index. It may not have changed my life, but it certainly changed the way I eat! Jeanne

I highly recommend a book by Susan Kleiner, RD,PhD. called "Power Eating". She explains the REAL science of carbohydrates, protein, etc. and proper nutrition for weight loss, muscle gain, training for competitions, etc. No gimmicks or supplements being sold--though she does mention some Gatorade products but gives you a homemade alternative so as not to be exclusively plugging Gatorade products. Also, any book by Nancy Clark is also good for nutrition advice.

Oh yes.....

Strong Women Stay Slim, Strong Women Stay Young, Strong Women Eat Well, & Strong Women, Strong Bones. All by Miriam Nelson. Any or all of these.....awesome books!!

RE: Oh yes.....

I've gotten the most useful and effective nutrition information from the book Body Rx by A. Scott Connelly. Although he is the founder of the Met Rx products (which Cathe endorses in her wedding video), he doesnt push these products in his book. The book is very well written, easy to follow and has many useful food lists that I use as a reference all the time.

The textbooks for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness Instructor exam and the Personal Trainer exam. Science and the fundamentals rather than rewarmed, dumbed-down rhetoric.

I have Power Eating and I like it. I like Andrew Weil a great deal, enjoyed Eat, Drink and Be Healthy by Harvard doctor William Willet as well as the Okinawa Program. I love to read nutrition books and take from them the portions that are doable for me. The basics of eating lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and lean proteins sticks with me to this day. For awhile I was very obsessive about clean eating, but lately I have added in some foods that I refused to eat because any obsession is silly and life is short and food should be enjoyed. I strive for balance! I recently got a new cookbook called the Minimalist Cooks Dinner by Mark Bittman and it's great! Wonderful meals in about thirty minutes!

Exercise books I have read tend to pertain to running and I am on hiatus from running right now. I did get Corey Everson's book but it's heavey on machines and I use free weights at home, so it was not too helpful and the pictures were a hoot. Sometimes it seems as if the line between Playboy centerfold and body building exercise guru is a thin one!
