What is the best cathe video to start with?

I'm choreography challenged. What is the best video to learn Cathe's moves? I'm getting CTX but I'm sure it will be too advanced for me.

My first Cathe ever was CTX. Here is what I did and it worked great: I watched each video twice. I took notes. For Leaner Legs I wrote down when Cathe switched from dumbbells to a barbell and when she lowered or hightened her step so I would be prepared. I work out in our 'breezeway' so I have a door to my right and windows to my left. When I first did 10/10/10 I just thought, 'Okay when she does a richochet I start out facing the door, touch my foot down on the opposite side of the step so that I am facing the window, and come right back again.' When I first did the Up & Back I thought, 'Okay, Cathe says it's like a two knee repeater, except you add rotation to your body, so I know that I start facing the widow.' I actually wrote this down, dorky, but it helped. I have since bought a lot of Cathe's earlier tapes and it's great because now I already know most of the moves so I can really focus on form and intensity. You will love it! And if you want a super fun DVD, Cardio Hits is the one! I wish I could sometimes do two workouts in one day they are so fun! I have heard that Mega Step Blast or the Wedding video are the best ones to start with, but I don't have those so I just thought I'd tell ya what worked for me. Have fun!!!

I started with the wedding tape which everyone recommended and I still think it is great. She has 45 minutes step and 45 minutes weights so you get an introduction to both. The step tape gets to very good intensity so it is not like it is a beginner tape. I have just ordered two other step tapes and am debating whether to get the CTX series. Everyone says that it is great also. I get bored easily so need to change tapes often (also better for my body). Good luck - Sandy

My first tape was Step Heat, its a bit shorter than most and she throws in some ab work at the end. The Wedding video is also a great choice. You'll love the CTX series. It really incorporates all her moves, and when you get them down, you can pretty much do any of her tapes. I STILL have a hard time with Step Works and Rythmic Step, avoid those for now. Have fun! My first step video was Step Heat, also, and I am definitely choreography challenged!! After I conquered it, which really was faster than I thought, I was hooked on cathe and got the wedding video. I now have CTX series (my favorite)kickbox, MIC, Mega Step Blast, Cardio Hits DVD, etc. etc... just be prepared to fall in love with cathe's workouts! They are addicting, and now I'm actually excited doing the harder choreography!! Good luck to you!

I started with Power Max and did rather well with the first try. I tripped and landed on my bum just once and was drenched by the end of it. The workout has this final segment that has a 360 move that is still pretty tricky for me but I feel fab when I manage it. Very fun tape and if you do all the power moves you can bet your HR will stay up the whole time. Body Max is so much fun and can be split up easily...which is an option that makes this one very versatile.

RE: Oh Rootcher - do get CTX!

It is so awesome and perfect for someone who needs to change tapes a lot! Okay, I am done trying to get you to spend money now! Have fun!

I recommend Powermax as it is a good tape to grow with, you don't necessarily want something that will not represent any degree of interest or challenge after a month or two. Also, the cardio is split into three segments, so if you find the video too challenging at the start, you can essily progress through it mastering it one segment at a time, which is what i did originally.

I do not recommend Body Max to begin with. It is too fast and too intense to serve as an intro to cathe and could well end up discouraging you or injuring you. I teach languages and we say that all activities for our students should be targeted at the students' level +1 degree of difficulty to represent a challenge and something to aspire to. Anything more than that and the activity overwhelms the student. I think the same is applicable with Cathe videos simply because they are the most intense on the market. An advanced tape from anyone else is quite simply a beginner or Intermediate for Cathe.

I also think Step Fit is a good intro. It has a variety of Cathe moves, two segments and will not wipe the floor with you. I think it is a lot of fun and allows you to enjoy the workout without worrying about not being able to keep up.

Good luck and welcome to the world of the hopelesly addicted...

Hi,

I have just recently started with Cathe. I purchased almost all of her videos last year but didn't get the courage to actually start using them until this year. After recommendations from the VF Forum, I started out with Step Heat and The Wedding Video and I am so glad I did. I liked the fact that Step Heat was a little shorter than the others and I caught onto the choreography after my second time. I think those two are excellent video to start with.
