What is ONE rep for these?

Standing rows-Cathe bends over 45 degrees and then rows 7 times before standing up again. So, what exactly does one rep consist of: bending, rowing 7, then standing=1 rep? Or, each row is 1 rep? Meaning, Cathe bends over, does 7 REPS and then stands up again?


Barbell curls-21s: Here Cathe does half length curls 14 times, then full length curls for another 7 times. What is one rep here? I just did as many full length curls as I could.

Rowing 7 times and then standing is 1 rep.

Barbell curl 21 - you do 7 starting from the bottom half way up, then you do 7 starting from the top and go half way down and then the final 7 you do the full length. So there is 7 reps per move. Hope this helps.

One Rep Max testing is designed for straight reps, not rep patterns. This is why we don't test for every exercise in STS like the barbell seven rows you mention above.

For Barbell curls-21's you want to use the same barbell weight you use to do 12 to 15 reps for normal standing barbell curls. Just by chance you will find that if you use about 70% to 80% of your One Rep Max for Standing Barbell Curls you will have the perfect weight to do 21's.

I'm a little confused... The barbell rows ARE listed in the One Rep Max test list in the back of the STS guide and it references disc 2, which shows Cathe doing Barbell 7 rows. So I double checked the workout manager to see if the Youtube video instructions on how to do Barbell Rows was different from disc 2. Since it was the same, I assumed I was supposed to test for my one rep max the way the YouTube video instruction showed it.

I can understand now that I should do regular rows, regular barbell curls, etc. It was just a little confusing.
