Hi Everyone, I've seen these listed before on products but never knew what exactly they are. My Detour bars say there are 3g of sugar and 13g (I think g) of sugar alcohols. Are these a bad thing? I remember someone once telling me that products like sucralose (which is in Detour bars) have these alcohols. So anyone know what they are and what they do to the body? Thanks so much!!

My take is that your body definitely sees them as something foreign, which is why if you eat too many, you can get bad runs! They are a way of companies adding sweetness without adding carbs that your body can absorb. I would avoid them.

They are the sugar substitutes like Manitol, or Sorbitol that can wreek havoc on your system if your system is sensitive to them. Can cause bloating, gas, and generally cause someone to be miserable. Hummm can you tell I am talking from experience?!!?:+ I get very ill from sugar alcohols and cannot tolerate them at all.

Be careful.
