What Else Is There?

Now that we've all hugged (Bobbi?), I was wondering if there is anything else after Cathe. I don't mean harder. But another tape I would enjoy using as an alternative to Cathe. For the days that ya want to workout but don't have the strength for her. I know the DVDs are shipping now and I'm all excited about that but, teaching 5 year olds all day can leave me whipped this time of year.

Here's the thing - I got The Bar Method DVD, like a fool, cuz I heard a lot of hype about it. There is another thread that really likes it, but IMHO it's yardsale material. Breezed through that baby and made a mental note to ask you guys for suggestions. Easy on the cardio cuz of my hip. Whatcha got? Alexis

Hey there, maybe once you get the BB with all the premixes it will have some premixes that are for light days. I don't know that for sure but just a thought. I've heard people saying it was less harder then the IS but I don't have it so I can't tell you that.

I think you're probably right. And what a silly time to be asking the question! I just hate to be such a groupie. And I am. I'm a groupie! Ms. independent, free-thinker here is a Cathe groupie! Everything else disappoints. Alexis

I use Charlene Prickett for cardio that's low impact but vigorous, though not as vigorous as Cathe. I do Pilates when I don't want to lift heavy weights.

Edited to add. I also enjoy Gilad. He's kinda like Cathe lite:)

Hey Alexis! With the BB Dvds you will be able to create your own workouts using the workout blender. Think of the possibilities. Then there are the pre-mixes. With the technology of these DVDs, I think there will something for everybody. Shorter workouts and putting together even longer workouts. As far as non-Cathe workouts, Janis Saffel has a couple that I like. Hardcore Kickbox, Strike Zone Kickbox and Brand New Butt plus Pilates. The latter DVD has a bonus step section and I haven't tried the pilates portion of it yet.

Take care,

I had originally ordered the VHS but switched my order to DVD for two main reasons. I loved the "music louder" option, and I really wanted the "Timesaver" DVD. I am hoping that this will do exactly what you are asking about....which is not only save time, but to fit in when you really can't put in more than an hour of hard work, feeling pooped, or wiped out from a day of five year olds.

Did you get this, or know about it? It may solve the problem.:)

I know when I woke up this morning something was wrong. I haven't hugged Alexis today!
<<<<<<< Alexis >>>>>>> Those are actual replicas of my elbows!

I have done The Firm, Charlene, Kathy Smith, Karen Voight, Kari Anderson, Mindy Mylea and have given them away because they just don't do for me what Cathe can. With the complete set of Cathe DVS's, I have no desire to spend anymore money on workouts I don't like as well. Don't get me wrong, some of them are excellent but it's a matter of too complex choreograpy (Kari!) or moving too quickly or not having the kind of cardio I like the best. Really I am unqualified to answer because I... What was the question?

Hello Alexis,
Can I have a hug too?
Then can I have one from Bobbi?

(((( )))) {{{{{ }}}}} <<<< >>>>>

I'm trying out my hugging technique here... :)

Okay now wiping that smile off my face and getting serious here...

I really enjoy Christi Taylor - especially her hi/lo. She is not especially hi impact. She has difficult choreography. Christie really works the brain. She is fun and interesting and upbeat. Sometimes I think that I just don't have the oomph to do Cathe and I pull out Christie for some cardio.

I have heard good things about some of Karen Voigts stuff - especially "great weighted work out" I confess I haven't tried that. Charlene Pricket's "Women with Balls" has gotten some good press too, Once again I don't have first hand knowledge here.

Have you been to videofitness.com? These people are in to EVERYTHING! There are lots of reviews. And they have a trading forum so you can possibly trade a vid to try a new workout.

I do have to say that nobody is Cathe....

Joy, is it possible to give or receive too many hugs? No!
<<<<<<Joy>>>>>>

I bought a highly recommended Christi Taylor tape and it was embarrassing! In fact, I am really proud to have finally mastered triple steps (cha cha cha!) but I did fall pitch forward off my step when I was doing a reverse scoop on the step today. The important thing is I got right back on! I am very distressed by the fact that I sound like an elephant too. Cathe actually says, "Shhh", indicting how softly my tootsies should be falling on that step. I just thump, thump thump up and down! What's up with that? :)

AHHH thanks Bobbie.

There is an elephant living in my house! My neighbor came over and complained about the drumming noise coming through the wall at 5:30 am!! (I think is was the peg leg mambo in Step Blast) SOOO the next time I did it I tried to be light on my feet even thought I think Cathe is encouraging a stomp with the peg-leg mambo (as well as the slam-it move)

Okay you guys that don't have Step Blast yet you are in for a treat!!!

I've found the Lotte Berk series to be a very different, but very effective approach to working abs and lower body. Initially, I thought, "What, no weight? How hard can it be?" For me at least, it's very challenging. I skip the upper body stuff - not enough to bother with - but the abs, legs and "seat" exercises are great! If you have any dance background you may enjoy these, or if you like Pilates or Callenetics, this is similar. I find them to be complimentary to my heavy weight work.

I have one more suggestion. The Slim Series. Not Cathe intense by any means. And the cario isn't really challenging, but it's light weights hig reps, and let me tell you, I was sore the next day. Especially in my legs. I've heard people complain of the music, but, I've also heard that some just turn down the volume and play their own music. I personally like these tapes. I also second the Christy Taylor suggestion though, I love Christy, she's very fun. If you are afraid of complex choreography try her "Just for Fun, Still Jumpin". I feel that they are simpler moves, but it really is fun and not that intense.
I hope that this helps.

Kathy

I second the Slim Series. I also like Cindy Crawford's workouts for lighter days. Especially "The Next Challenge".

Janis Saffell is another one I like to use for lighter days. Especially her newer workouts on DVD. (Hardcore Kickbox Circuit and the BNB plus Pilates.) http://www.janissaffell.com

I always end up going right back to Cathe though. She is the best.

I third the Slim Series. Debbie is cute as a button and next to Cathe, she's my favorite instructor. Her background exercisers can be annoying though!

I have a ton of videos and can't part with any of them, despite the fact that all I do nowadays is Cathe, yoga and the Slim Series.

I also recommend the Slim Series and the Slim in 6 dvds. They are keepers.

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/lach.gif[/img]

So, now this thread has lead to a question of my own. I see you are also recommending the Slim Series, or Slim in 6, and I am curious how those compare to all the Firms.....at least the newer ones from BSS1 and BSS2? Are they more challenging yet lighter than Cathe? I could see trying them if that were the case. I have looked at the site and they seem to have a whole diet plan as well.

I have every Firm on my shelf, but they are way in the back collecting dust (any offers?:) ) so I have no need to add to a collection of dust collectors, but if you could elaborate a bit more on why you like them.....Thanks!!

Bobbi, you are such a fool (in a good way)! I like that - reminds me of me! After a very bad day, I was laughing my butt off (I wish) at the hugs and kisses. You made my day, Bobbi. As for you other folks, who are not fools, I have looked at Video Fitness. I think you guys are a more discerning, critical, intelligent group so I'll stick with your sugggestions. We're just so darn classy here!

Slim Series does interest me though. I just may give it a whirl. Got extra bucks to burn, in my mind anyway.

Also discovered I have a sinus infection so that's why I've been so poopy lately. It's like I have a vise grip tightening around my head and chills. But I got drugs now so I'll be back to my old witty self in no time. Alexis

PS - Bobbi - where do you find those little guys?

They are Plauder Smilies and I linked 'em below. There was one more I thought about adding but, as much as I love you, Alexis, I didn't want you thinking I loved TOO much. At the end of the animation, the two smilies light up cigarettes, and, well, smilies shouldn't smoke!
