I was wondering what all you do during the days you're at home- my mom never listened to anything, so I can't either. My MIL has the TV wake her up and always (I mean always) has it going if she's at home, so DH is the same way.

What do you do most often?

Neat question, Amy! For me it depends. In the summer, I always have music, AC or TV on to drown out the noise of the monsters in my neighborhood :p. When I'm writing, I need to have something in the background or the silence distracts me, so I usually have the TV on something that doesn't need my concentration, like Food Network. Right now, though, the woodstove is going, the tree is lit and the snow is falling as I wrap Xmas presents, and so I have opted for lovely silence!

I have never understood the need for contstant noise. I love the peace and quiet. We only have the TV to watch a show or a movie. We do listen to music, but not really that often. I get my music fix on my IPOD at the gym. I just love to be at home in the peaceful silence.

I don't have cable so the TV is never on, unless Sophie is watching a movie or I'm doing a workout.

Sometimes the radio or a CD is on. Mostly it's just quiet.:)

You didn't have an option for Roosters...:D ..if I am home about the only thing I'll watch on TV during the day is Court TV...otherwise I love peace and quiet!...:)...Carole

I have three boys so it is never quiet. When my older two are at school my youngest, who is three, is always yapping about something. :)

I have three children and so quiet is rare. I often have national public radio on. Occasionaly music. Never tv, I like Shelly don't get any tv reception. I'll watch an occasional movie, but I don't have it on for noise. I just visited my sister for Thanksgiving and she has 5 tv's in her house and finds the noise comforting. To be totally honest visiting her house made me miss tv. But I know it's not good for me, I have no self control, I'll watch anything!

I have 4 kids - they provide lots of chatter.

I like music on during the very rare times that I'm home alone.

Nothing in particular here...I can sit in quiet (like right now) or I may have the TV on...I rarely turn the sound on on my pc though unless I specifically want to hear something....I rarely turn on the radio also...

If I want background noise, I usually go for The Weather Channel. On Sundays, I love the sound of football, even if I'm not watching a game. A lot of times, though, I just like to keep it quiet.

One sound I absolutely hate but have no control over it, is the sound of a very windy day. It just freaks me out.

TV and constant chatter. I envy those of you who hear peace and quiet. That's all I want for Christmas. Can someone send some in a box, please?:p

ummm I hear Disney channel pretty much all the time. I even dream about those dang characters. sigh. Oh & I hear a boybarella constantly saying "eeeeeooooow" (for our kitty) "wooo woooo wooo" (fire truck) "uh oh", "hi", and "buh bye". ;)

If DS is awake and I'm in the kitchen, he is almost always there chattering about nothing. If I'm making dinner or baking, I often turn on the radio. Otherwise, I like peace and quiet. I love to read and usually do it upstairs on the bed, the quietest place in our house.

I chose news but I'm not sure that was exactly right. I work from home and have talk radio on most of the day. However, there is one hour that I don't like the talker, so I have launch playing on my yahoo im. So I guess it's news & music? Never EVER tv. I hardly watch any at night either.

Okay, I have to admit when I read your post I got a little spooked. I thought you were talking about what you hear (noise wise)when you are home alone, as I am a stay at home mom. The first thing I thought of was: the house creaking. Or do I hear that because I am walking ustairs?:) I would have to vote for music. The t.v goes on to watch the news and to watch a movie when my cleaning for the day is done.

Books on tape and CD, all the time. I get tons of cooking and housework done while listening to a great narrative.

Also, the sounds of my husband and kids playing soccer in the living room (aaargh!) and their fighting, which I have to run a mile from.

Also, my neighbour, upstairs, is a musician but he plays the same few chords of whatever piece he is learning over and over again. We never hear the whole melody. Drives us mad! It's dirge music, never anything uplifting. Why is this?!?!?!?!

Amy,

I thought you were going to ask what you hear when you go home for Christmas, like nagging from your parents! "You should have taken a different route", etc....

I often have the tv on for background noise. I'd rather listen to music, but I'm back in school and find music much more distracting while I'm studying. I want to sing along, so I don't pay attention to what I'm reading. I am desensitized to tv, so I can tune it out. I'm so used to having the noise, I think it would be really weird to go camping right now or be anywhere with no noise!
