What did you think of American Idol last night??????

:D I couldn't believe the difference in singers from last night compared to last week. I thought every one of last weeks singers were great! Last night, I thought there were only a few who were descent! I voted for Lisa. The week before I voted for Fantasia! I don't think it is fair though when the judges criticize so harshly during the voting as I think it persuades people to vote for who they like. Do any of you vote?
 
I agree!! I was very surprised by the difference from last week's group. I also thought Lisa was the best of the group last night. It should be interesting to see who was voted through from this group. When I watched it last season, we had AOL and sometimes I went to the AOL message boards afterwards. A lot of people debated on whether or not the judges' criticism influenced the votes. I suppose there's no real way to tell. I would hope people who vote would do so based on their own opinions, not those of the judges. It's a lot of fun to watch, regardless! I really admire these people for being able to sing in front of a live audience that way, and knowing America is watching them and voting! It takes a lot of courage!!

Yeah, I just didn't like anyone, none of them caught my attention. FAntasia during last weeks really caught my eye, same with teh younger girl, but I don't remember her name. I think that Fantasia will do very well in this contest!

Lisa~I totally agree...last night was night and day from last week's bunch. For once, Simon was right on! Ha! We (hubby & I) have never voted by calling in. We usually just pick who we like & we usually agree. I picked Clay last year right at the start and he came in second out of zillions! I have Bunko tonight so DH is taping it for me. Is Lisa the lil' blonde? If so, I think she's pretty good out of the eight. I also like the football player. Forget his name too. It's going to be a very interesting season.

DH and I watched it. It was actually sort of painful to watch...kinda like everybody was really psyched out or something. Confidence just seemed to be low. And what's with all the ballads??!! I think the vocal coach needs to help them out more with song choice.

I agree that last week's contestants were much better - Diana knocked my socks off!
 
I thought they ran the gamut from dull to horrible! At the horrible end was the first of the two brothers. I'm glad the judges pointed out that he didn't sing one note on key (just reinforced my perception, but I'm not a singer or musician, so it's nice to know my ear's o.k.).

I was disappointed that the barback (looks a bit tomboyish) didn't do very well. I'd like to see her go on.

Doesn't it seem like Randy's becoming another Simon? He doesn't seem to like anything anymore (maybe he's grumpy because of being unable to eat much after his gastric bypass...he looked better to me when he was heavier!). And if he says "aiight" one more time, I'm going to throw something at the T.V.
 
:D On the subject of Randy Jackson, is he the brother of the famous Jacksons, you know Michael, Janet etc. Someone told me he is and replaced Jermaine in the Jackson five back in the 70's. If he is there brother, he sure is a lot heavier than the rest! Oh Deb, Lisa is not the little blond. She has brownish, long, curly hair. I thought the shows would be more interesting if they took more of the first group and put them in the second group!

He doesn't look like one of those Jacksons. I would think if he were a brother, it would be mentioned in one of the articles I read about AI, or someone (probably Ryan) would have mentioned it during the show in some way. They do mention his ties to Mariah Carey and some other singers and his having been in some band (as a guitarist?).

I voted for Lisa last night, not only because she had a great voice, but because she said she was comfortable with who she is and didn't feel the need to lose weight just because Simon told her she was fat (or something to that effect). I think we need more role models like Lisa, and not people whose heads look like lollipops because their bodies are so skinny! ;-)

This is the first year I've actually watched it, and I'm sorry I missed the past two seasons! I love it! And yes, I actually call in! I voted for Fantasia last week too! I liked her also because she had a different look and a voice that knocked me over!
 
This is the first season I've watched AI and I'm enjoying it. Last night was painful - so many vanilla/white-bread song choices. I thought Lisa, the redhead, was great. There was no one else I would vote for.

On the Jackson thing - there IS a Jackson brother named Randy - he's the youngest of the clan - but he's not the same Randy Jackson as on AI. The six Jackson brothers are Michael, Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, Tito and Jackie. The infamous-Jackson-clan Randy replaced Jermaine in the group The Jackson 5.

I was a HUGE fan of the Jacksons in my formative years...:p . Of course, this was before all the plastic surgery and scandal.

I'm so disappointed Lisa didn't make it into the final round! That Matt guy did, and his encore was SO incredibly out of tune I was embarrassed for him!

He's not related to the infamous Jackson family. He was in the band Journey for a time, and has done lots of other things in music like producing and behind the scenes things. If you go to idolonfox.com, the "official" American Idol website, you can read the bios on the judges and the contestants.

I was a little surprised by the fact Lisa didn't make the top two tonight, but remember ... Clay didn't make the top two from his group either, and they brought him back in the Wild Card show. She could still return! I'm really glad I'm not the only one from these forums that can't seem to stop watching that show - LOL!!

Lynn, the lil' Hawaiian gal made it and also Matthew, the big football player. I liked them both. And, I am a BIG Clay fan! Got his CD which is great!

I have become a Clay fan. I really like his new song "Invisible". I have never voted but was pulling for Rueben last time. He just reminded me of my old favorite "Barry White". This Idol is the first time I have watched from the start....how painful...:)...missed the first couple of singers night before last , and was actually surprised the Football guy made it over Lisa. I don't remeber all of their names but the little Hawaiian girl that made it was so cute and I do like her voice. It is a fun show to watch...:)...Carole

I am surprised that Matthew made it! Simon and Co. were pretty mean to him. I kind of like him too... he has a good voice, but I don't think the song he picked worked for his style.

I love the little hawaiian girl too.. she is a cutie and has a GREAT voice. Once she gets some confidence she is going to be a force to be reckoned with!

:D Thanks for clearing that up for me carol, RE: Randy Jackson. I wasn't sure whether to believe it or not, seeing there is a Randy Jackson in the Jacksons! Also, I can not believe Lisa did not win and was very surprised the football player won because of Simon's comments! What really stinks is I did not see the football player or the tomboy girl sing because our station was blacked out during that time, ARGH, so I was'nt sure how they sang. I wasn't too impressed with the Hawaiian girl and was surprised she beat Lisa out! She seems too nervous to me, not that I blame her!
 
Oh I'm so glad I wasn't the only person that was so shocked to see that guy beat out Lisa! Not that I think for sure that Lisa will win, but I know that guy isn't as good. He looks so much older than the other contestants. Like he's over the 25 cut off. He must be close, that's all I can think of. Oh well, we know he wont' get too much further I'm sure!
The only time I ever voted was for Justin in the first season, I thought he was the best. I was so disapointed when his album flopped. I have decided that he was just too nice, he kept putting Kelly before himself. When he should have been trying to promote himself. OH well, I like Kelly too. Clay is good, but Rubin isn't my style of music, so I probably won't buy his album. I have all the others though!
