What cookbooks do you use?

HI,

I am thinking of purchasing some cookbooks and I'm just wondering if anyone has these books and thier opinions of them:

1. Healthy Decadance - Devin Alexander
2. Hungry Girls Cookbook

And on another note has anyone read Kim Lyons book?

I really like "The Food You Crave: Luscious Recipes for a Healthy Life" by Ellie Krieger. She's a RD who promotes clean eating.

You might also try "The Perfect Recipe for Losing Weight and Eating Great" by Pam Anderson.

I, too, use the Ellie Kreiger book - The Foods You Crave. It's great and the recipes are simple and delicious (and healthy)!!

I second Beavs recommendation! I also have a few to add:

Eat, Drink and Weigh Less by Mollie Katzen and Dr. Walter Willet has some wonderful, healthy, easy, delicious, and quick recipes.

Moosewood Cafe Simple Suppers is another very good cookbook

I also find myself referring a lot to a couple of Cooking Light Annual Recipe books.

I have many friends who are in love with Hungry Girl's new cookbook. I saw it at Costco this week for about $10.

Let us know what you decide to buy! :9

I will also add Cooking Light. I also get Clean Eating and Fine Cooking magazines. (I actually have too many cookbooks to count, so I and trying to narrow it down here)

I wish I could find a cookbook with high protein low carb recipes in it that is a clean eating cookbook. Almost impossible to find!

Anyone find anything like that let me know! :)

Tosca's book isn't bad but I don't listen to her dietary advice. Being "Fab 40" and running around on the beach in a bathing suit riding up her kiester (as in the latest issue of Oxygen) does not qualify her to give out nutritional advice the way she does. That's why I think Ellie Krieger is da bomb. She actually knows what she is talking about (and I don't have to look at her butt hanging out of an ill fitting swimsuit).

I have Tosca's book and I'm not impressed. VERY high carbs in almost every recipe in that book. And the ones that are low in carbs taste aweful.

I do like the Swiss mueslix recipe, though. That is really good.

HA! heehee...Beavs and that silly arse Tosca...}( }(

I never cook anymore, healthy to me means cooking up my chicken breasts or fish, steaming some veggies and I always have rice cakes and whole grain tortilla's on hand...I eat the same things every single day, so it makes it easy.

However! When I do cook, I love Giada's cookbook, and anything by Paula Deen aka "The Butter Machine!";) When I take the time to cook, its always decadent stuff.

Similar to Tneah, my favorite meals are clean because grill nearly every night and rotate between beef, chicken, shrimp, fish, etc. I also have DH grill veggies alot.

Most of our protein is seasoned with multiple salt free spices and/or light or FF marinades.

When I feel like "cooking" I like to go to foodtv.com (many of the chefs mentioned here, Giada, Paula D, Ellie K, are Food TV chefs) and look up some fun stuff. Like for tuna or halibut I will make a mango/papaya salsa or one of my favs for marinades is Bobby Flay, the griller himself !

There are loads of ways you can adapt their recipes to accommodate clean eating. It is usually the spices and fresh herbs or fruits that give you the best flavor anyway.

I eat the same food over and over. Broiled or grilled chicken, raw fruit and veggies, oatmeal, protein shakes every single day.

If I am looking for healthy new recipes, I use John Berardi's Gourmet Nutrition.

http://www.gourmetnutrition.com/
I LOVE his homemade protein bar recipes and he has some protein shake recipes that are absolutely sinful!!!

All the recipes are marked Anytime meal or Post Workout. Low Carb for anytime, and Post Workout are higher carb. John promotes eating higher carb meals within a 3 hour window of a workout. Of course, it also depends how sensitive to carbs you are. Download the PDF sample....the recipes are wonderful!!!

I use a lot of magazine recipes (Rachel Ray, Clean Eating, etc.). But my very favorite cookbook is Calling All Cooks (I'm from the south). I use it for special occasions and holidays. Great great great Christmas recipes.
