Maybe I'm the only one, but I really prefer having a heavy barbell. My barbell alone is 36 pounds, so I can use smaller plates or none at all more often.
If I'm lifting less than 36 pounds, I can usually be comfortable using dumbbells.
I have a barbell pad from Altus or one of those weight companies, but I feel like it makes the barbell slide backwards. I'm not sure if it would really roll back but the feeling is distracting, so probably not safe.
I like the idea of adding fabric to it...maybe I can find something that "sticks" a little more.
