We're In This Together **JUNE**

Hi ladies :)

I responded to everyone in May's thread.

Yesterday's w/o was 4DS low intensity step on an 8inch. I love that one! It gives me a great little sweat in only 30min.

Today I kinda' want to go a bit harder w/my cardio. I'm thinking the hiit's from Intensity + step portion of BM2 (no blasts). I feel great actually from this week's recovery. I was watching CatheTV again on YouTube just to make sure I heard correctly when she states we should be able to enjoy any cardio we want on active recovery. She even says we can increase cardio, just NO weights! I'm not sure why I though hiit and intervals were off limits . Perhaps just to give the body and mind a break if needed.

BIG NEWS, Mark is out right now joining the gym! I'm so happy for him :). He's been very crabby lately and so I blame his recent weight gain, inactivity and only getting 6 hours sleep/night. He wakes up at 4:30am Mon-Fri for work. I can't sympathize about the waking up early part though, as I used to do it often when I worked full-time, commuting 1.5hrs on public transit and working 9hrs days. It's a hard knock life :D.

Have a great weekend!

Hello Friends.
Must be a busy Saturday, quiet here today.

Natty-Congrats on Mark joining a gym. Yes, he will feel better. Lack of movement can cause change mood/behavior/health.
Starting Meso Cycle 2, the workouts do change. I believe Cathe wants us to avoid injury from overuse. Most of STS Cardio workouts are lighter except for Intensity. Active Recovery, I saw were long walks, recreational biking, etc.
Tomorrow night, I am volunteering for a phone pledge drive at PBS/NPR then a re-fresh meeting from my program. Pretty sure the blog will come up. Learning to stay away from the Stats.
My recovery week starting Tuesday will be LIS or even one of Cathe's workouts without the step.
This week, I've made ground turkey spaghetti with whole-grain noodles. The whole grain fills me up and reduces hunger just like gluten free for me as well although I don't need to eat gluten free, it does well with my system. Next week, I plan to grill lean pork chops again and make stuffing with a good macaroni salad (which will hurt my calorie counter). Stuffing not so bad.
Went to a Vintage Baseball League game today. I saw a former classmate of mine from the Detroit area. Turbulent weather ended the games early.

Hello girls!
How are you all? I see some of you have embraced the biggest challenge, STS! Way to go, Natty and JT!I was talking about STS last night with DH, he seemed to be interested...but consistency is not his best quality, so I don't think he'll be able to stick with such a long term program.
I've been away from the forum for long, just checked in here and there to read the news about the new workouts mainly. I had a very busy month, fell ill myself (had to stop for a complete week all my workouts due to fever/antibiotics and so on, lost almost all my voice and still have some troubles when I have to speak for long) and then we had a good earthquake! We are all safe, thanks God, but people living at 50 Km away from me (30 miles) have no more a house, lost everything ... And tremors are going on, let's hope this torture will come to an end soon!
This month will be the most intense one, so I really hope I will stick with June rotation but as I will be travelling a lot and even very far from home I don't know how often I will be writing here. I miss you so much, you're such a source of motivation/inspiration to me!
Colleen, Sarah, how are you and your families? How about the kids?
Got to go now, hope to be back later to read about you all.
I wish you a fabulous Sunday and a great June month!

Just forgot to ask one thing; I'm experiencing muscle fatigue probably beacause I've been sick, do you eat and or drink something special (a part from protein shake) to speed up muscle recovery? It happens with cardio mainly, like if I had low level of fuel to complete a workout...Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello ladies! Found you! Yep, I did it again...

Last night we had Lydia's dance recital. She was so cute. She had to have her hair up in a bun and since I'm useless for hairstyling and she has the most tender scalp ever I took her to my sister's salon and had her do it. Thank goodness I have a sister that's a hairdresser! She did pretty well actually because I had her distracted with a little SpongeBob playing on my blackberry. Good old SpongeBob saved the day!;)

Here's some pictures. My mom, Mark's Grandma and cousin Katie came to the recital, too.

Today I hope to start up with Meso 1 again. This will be an STS week...it feels like a really long time since I did any STS workouts for some reason! I'm dreading all the push ups! I'm excited to have my tower though. That'll make the push ups more doable without having to go to my knees.

Ellie- I'm so sorry you've been sick! I can't believe you guys had an earthquake! Yikes! Have you ever had one before? The scariest thing we get around here is tornadoes. I would be so terrified to live somewhere where earthquakes can happen at any time, like say in California. As far as fuel for cardio, I do like my protein shakes but if you aren't into that just make sure you are getting some carbs pre-cardio to get you through. I usually eat a little oatmeal with cinnamon in the morning but you'd probably want to get just a little bit of sugar in you to carry you through intense cardio. Like maybe some fruit juice or a banana would be helpful to give you that boost. Then you can save some protein for post workout like a boiled egg. They also say that chocolate milk is a great recovery drink. Just the right ratio of protein to sugar. I've heard it called the poor man's protein shake!:D

Natty- Yay for Mark joining the gym!! I am really hoping Mark finds the motivation soon, too. He defintely could benefit from the exercise and he knows it. We keep talking about it....and talking and talking:rolleyes:. He is trying to get out and bike more with Dylan which is a good start. Now that summer is here he tends to be more active and that always puts him in a better mood. He does have some good muscle just from his job...being a plumber means he has to haul some heavy stuff sometimes. The belly is not getting smaller though:eek:.

Jen- have you tried eating gluten free for any length of time? I've thought about trying that before just to see what it would do for me. It's really tough with kids though. You pretty much just make what you know they'll eat or else they'd never eat! Plus gluten free stuff can be pretty expensive. I'd love to try it sometime though. Even for a week just to see if it made a difference in my energy level or anything. I don't think I'm gluten intolerant but some people swear by the diet. I could never eat a paleo diet, though (which they say is gluten free by it's nature). I just can't wrap my head around the idea that they claim legumes and other foods like that being unhealthy.

Okay, better get going here! Later girls!

Oh Natty, I forgot to mention we finished watching the first season of Game of Thrones Friday night! I have to say, I have a pretty big crush on the character John Snow . He's a wee bit young for me. Hee. I googled him and the actor's like 25 years old. I'm a total sucker for the tortured yet noble character. Those eyes!:p I can't wait until I can get my hands on season 2! I totally hear you on the lack of love for Star Trek. I think it's the sterility of the show. I tend to like my shows (whether movie or tv) to either be grand and mythic like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or else intricate and intimate with interesting and complicated characters like Breaking Bad or Mad Men.

Back to making breakfast! Have a great day girls!

Happy Sunday :)

Whew, I just finished CSS but w/slight modifications. I used NO weight, some of the moves were high impact to raise my HR, and I used my arms to punch in the kickboxing moves. I'm sweating buckets over here! Those plank exercises get me every time  (even though I hate em', I still do em').

We were supposed to go to Canada's Wonderland tomorrow (a big theme park near Toronto), but it looks like rain and cold. I guess it will have to be postponed :(.

All that talk about Paleo on OD and I had a craving for chick peas :p. I roasted them in the oven with some no-salt seasoning, olive oil and pepper. No one in the world, not even GOD himself, is gonna stop me from eating legumes! IMO, it's a perfect food.

Colleen
The pics are adorable!!! In the words of my cousin "Lydia is so cute I want to rip her head off and eat it!!!" lol. You look like a cutie yourself Colleen ;).
Oh my, John Snow, John Snow. LOVE . He's my fav . I'm not gonna tell you what goes on in my mind when I see him .
Are you doing all of M1? The push-ups off the tower will be great for you. See? The tower and you were meant to be :D.
Ellie
I was gonna ask you about the earthquake today! My Nonna was freaking out about it (she's from Genova). I feel so bad people lost homes . Natural Disasters are so heartbreaking. I'm glad to hear you and your family are ok.
I'm sorry to hear about your illness as well. I wish you a speedy recovery.
I was going to say the same thing as Colleen, chocolate milk w/banana's, even peanut butter (it tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup :p).
We miss you lots too! Take care of yourself and hope to hear from you soon.
Jen
Your dinners sound very tasty!!! I love me some pasta w/ground turkey, beef, chicken, anything really :p.
Good luck with your phone pledge drive at PBS/NPR! How great of you to volunteer. You are super awesome!

Have a great day ladies

Hello Friends.
Happy Sunday. Just went for a long walk. Whenever I have protein like an Sausage McMuffin, I stay full most of the day. Calories are horrible on it but I won't eat till later.
With the stock market reversal and the jobs report bleak, I will continue to blog. Friday night, I posted about it, I got 4 hits within one hour although I have vowed to stay away from the stats.

Ellie-Sorry to read that you've been ill and had to deal with earthquakes. Horrible. As for low energy, it may be your iron is too low. My Mom tells me to eat steak for dinner at least once a month, coming from a former vegitarian. Peanut butter works good too.
Colleen-Love your pics!!! Kids know how to use those phones rather well. For Gluten-free, yes, it's expensive. No, I don't do it often. Some fruits/veggies are healthier than others but I believe GOD gave us this variety for a reason. I am strong believer in a good combination of foods plus treats once in awhile.
Natty-Bummer on the bad weather, we had it yesterday and now it's nice here. Yeah, there is NO perfect food. Planks, like dead lifts, get easier as time goes on. I can do them, not advanced. One of the Ab workouts from STS has all planks/pilates, do you own that one? Thank you, I like volunteering although no nursery for the summer. I hope to get a recommendation from them. Whole grain pasta is quite filling. This week, I will grill lean centerloin chops, stuffing and macaroni salad so I will need to work out. Trying to eat at home more. Tim Horton's is less expensive than Panera and most of their stuff is healthier too.

Ellie - I hadn't heard anything about an earthquake and it's severity. I'm so glad you guys are okay. Sorry that you've been sick. Hopefully that will end for a few months, and everybody stays healthy for awhile.

Jen- Your making me hungry, pasta is my bad, I can't turn it off once I start. So I just prefer not to start. It doesn'r even make a diff if it's whole grain or not. It's like candy to me. Among all the other things that are like candy to me :p I totally know what your talking about getting wrapped up in the number of people visiting your blog. I use to check my shop stats on Etsy all the time. Now, 2 times a day thats it.

I finally figured out how to do the faces like you guys!

Since you guys were talking about your hubbies and fitness. Mine has not been during his Tony Horton's 10 min. trainer.

Colleen- Love the pic with Lydia holding the bouquet. She's a definant cutie!

On Friday I was suppose to do HR but couldn't find the dang CD  (my fault:eek:). So I did Bootcamp instead and loved it. Plus another sick kid home from school, I think just allergies. Poor kid has been having to do the nasal rinse and it's scary the stuff up in her sinuses . Have you guys ever tried a nasal rinse?

On Sat was a 5k for our community that the kids and I have walked for 4 years. My husband did it too this time. I actually left him and the kids and ran the whole thing in 31 min. One of my daughter did it in 38 min. Yippee. I didn't think we could run that fast.

Birthday weekend this weekend. So I had a wonderful dinner last night lamb meatballs and pasta, fried oysters with a lovely garlic aioli, 2 magaritas . Got to go shopping to Lucy love that store. Tried to get fitted for a new bra since I haven't been bra shopping for 4 years. I went to Soma. Their vanishing back bra doesn't come in the size of itty bitty and droopy too, so that didn't work.

For my actual b-day tomorrow, once the kids go to school, I will be going for a hike with my hubby. I am very happy.

Have asked for my b-day dinner to be a reubin. Thanks Jen I have had a hankering since you had one last month.

Kids and I love LOTR also. We have a Gollum doll. It totally freakes my hubby out when my daughter does the "my precious" voice.

I dont have a problem with gluten either, so why get rid of it? I love legumes too and wouldn't want to live w/o them. I have cut PB now for 2-3 months and haven't seen a diff, so why bother when I love it so. I'm adding in back into my diet today in the form of a PB milkshake .

I wrote a book.

Sarah

Happy Birthday Sarah!!! Hope you enjoy your day.

Tonight, I found out the pledge drive was broadcast too late. I was dressed very casual so I hid behind my pc. Very slow night.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!!!!! Wow, I have so many Gemini's in my life. Love you guys :).

Today starts M2 for me .

BBL! Have a good day :)

No workout today! I haven't taken a rest day since last Monday so I'm due! Yesterday I did STS Meso 1 disc 1. It went so much more smoothly than the first time I did it! My endurance for push ups is still crappy though:(. I did as many as I could. Then after I felt the need for a little lower body and abs so I did those parts of TurboBarre! The leg lifts were so much better with the tower to hold on rather than a chair!

Happy Birthday Sarah! I love how you said you just found out how to do the smiley faces on the site. Hee! When I first started on VF it took me 6 months to figure out all the different aspects of the site. Then when I first got on Cathe's site I didn't post forever because I couldn't figure out how to get started! I finally had to email SNM to help me get started. I'm not the most tech savvy! I love that you're adding PB back in your diet!:p So many of these diets out there just tick me off because they will so often proclaim various foods off limits and "evil"! Like the Paleo diet...I get that some people have had good luck with it but come on! Everything in moderation is my motto! I figure agriculture has been around for 10,000 years so most people have had plenty of time to adapt to the food that came from it:rolleyes:. Really, when you think about it, obesity wasn't a major problem until things got SuperSized and ultra processed with tons of chemicals.

Good luck starting Meso 2 today Natty! I saw your post on OD about negative comments about fitness and lifting weights. When I first started STS my brother in law made a comment about the muscles on Cathe in the picture on the cover of the STS book. He was like, "oh dont' look like that! That's not feminine at all!" GRRR I didn't want to post that on OD as I didn't want Cathe to see that and be hurt (although I suppose technically she could see it on our thread but it's probably less likely). I was so mad at him. Luckily later on he apologized as he realized it was ignorant of him to say. My sister just commented on my arms yesterday actually, saying she wants to get her arms to look like mine! :) I only wish I could have my arms look as muscular as Cathe's! When I'm not working out or flexing them you can't tell too much that there's muscle there. I do notice right after a weight workout I'll get the "muscle pump". I wish it would stay all the time!

Jen- every time you mention Panera it makes me want to go there! I used to go there for lunch all the time and now I try to be good and eat my yogurt, granola and trail mix in my office. I keep the yogurt in a little fridge in my office. One of the contact lens sales reps took me out to Panera the other day to bug me about some brand of contacts that I haven't been fitting:rolleyes:. I hadn't been there in so long and it was soooo tasty!

I've been spending so much $ on dvds lately...now I totally want to get a couple of the Horizontal Conditioning dvds. Did you guys see that on OD? There's a big long thread about it on VF and I feel myself close to caving.... It's all planks all the time!

Have a great day ladies!

Grrrr, I just saw on OD someone posted about those of us who have reacted to people's negative opinions (regarding women lifting weights) as being easily offended and on our "high horse". Talk about being negative...;)

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Today I veered away from my rotation. I was suppose to go on a hike with my hubby. That was cancelled too. It's a rainy cold day. And my daughter is still sick with a fever. I did however do BodyMax 2 in it's entirity on a 8" step. First time, yahoo!

I read those postings regarding neg. comments on fitness. I thought we were suppose to be, uh well like a sisterhood. Not like a cat fight .

Tonight is a special dinner my mother does for me where the kids get to be a matradee and waitresses. Complete with dinner entainment as well. Last year it was beautifly done with a canopy covered in tulle and little twinkle lights. This year it will have to be inside. But the kids have so much fun with this tradition. My husband started this about 4 years ago for my parents aniversary and it's just been something fun to for the kids to dress up and have fun acting.

You had some workout yesterday Colleen. Way to go!

Can't wait to hear what you thought of your first Meso 2 disc Nat.

Jen- You hid behind your PC? Why? What am I saying I won't even stand still for a picture .

I too sometimes wish my muscles could been seen a little more. When they aren't pumped you can't so much tell.

Jen sausage mcmuffins were my favorite. I still love those rotten suckers.

Everything in moderation is a great modo. If I can't enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or have fruit it's just not worth it. I dont need to be a size 2 and have a six pack. But I do need to enjoy life. Life for me is FOOD:D:D

Sarah

Hello Friends.
How are you? Just got back from my meeting and I didn't get to Panera or Tim's either. Some of my cohorts kind of gave me the "cold shoulder" today, I believe it has to do with my blog. It was "Oh, look Jenn's here," without actual acknowledgment. I was put into a very small box during the program cause my work experience was not up there. With this blog, I got myself out of the box and doing something proactive and what they didn't think of. It is designed to encourage in a non-judgemental way plus I got an request to apply to a company from it.
Thank you for allowing me to vent.
Sarah-I looked horrible for the pic with a sweatshirt on while everyone else was dressed up. Congrats on BMX2 on the 8' step!!! That is awesome.
Colleen-Push ups galore on STS. I do some military and some on my knees. What is horizontal conditioning? What is the website for this VF?
Natty-Please tell us about cycle 2. Hope your day went well.

Update. I was able to encourage one of the people who gave me the cold shoulder from the meeting and made a suggestion afterwards I don't think she thought of. Taking the high road is the best way to deal with the stuff.

Good morning ladies :)

The OD thread starter does it again ;). Some people honestly need to chill-lax though. Let others say their peace and move on. I think people just wanna say s**t to get that  or  factor, instead of contributing to the topic at hand. I'm glad I don't know some of those people. But I'm glad I know all of you :).

I.CAN'T.WALK. Yesterday's w/o was D15 (legs). So I was like 10min in, my first tri-set, and my quad cramped. First time EVER that this has happened. Perhaps I needed more stretching, or I was trying to be a super star by using 25lbs dumbbells for my squats, whatever . Thank god for that 1min break . I lightened my load a bit and got some composure back. Did I mention I can't walk?

Another tid bit of news, I was at the mall yesterday looking at bathing suits at Old Navy . I actually found one! And it looked decent! I'm usually very insecure about my bum and thighs, so I always buy a little skirt, but I dared a 2-piece halter! Halter is very flattering for small chests (yes, even the itty bitty little ones that droop Sarah ;)). Plus it looks smokin' if you have defined shoulder's/back. Very slimming. I still bought the skirt.

Colleen
Have fun w/the new DVD's! Ha, ha, it really is like a crack addiction.....not that I've done crack.......or know what that addiction must feel like......I can just imagine they would be similar :D.
Breaking in your tower I see? Yup, TB is easier with it. A chair always felt awkward for me.
How awesome for your sister to say she wants arms like yours. People are so easy to give out criticism instead of compliments these days. As the saying goes, "if you don't have something nice to say..."
Sarah
I hope you had a nice birthday. The special dinner w/the kids sounds so sweet and wonderful. I love
cute little traditions like that :).
BM2 on an 8inch!!!! WOOHOOOO! Congrats fit lady!!!
Jen
See? Another example of how human beings can be a**holes! What goes around comes around Jen, I truly believe that. You are classier than all the other folks. Just keep working on your blog, and don't get discouraged.

Gotta run.....wobble . Have a great day :)
