We're in This Together (03.26-04.02)

Cathlete
Good Morning.

Happy Monday. A little voice told me I should check on my credit card online to make sure everything is where it should be and it is so I decided to start the new thread for this week.

Colder in MI, I had to turn my heat back on tonight but it helps to have usual temps at this time of year.

Hope you all have a great day!!

Hi everyone :)

Since everyone wanted a monthly thread instead, perhaps we can do one in April instead of changing weeks. Is everyone ok with that?

Today I was able to do a longer workout with Mark home in the day. If I can do a morning workout, between 9-11am, I find that I'm at my most energetic and usually pick a really hard one. So with all the Hardcore Extreme talk and Imax3, I decided on Hardcore Extreme Interval Circuit. For those that are not familiar, it's the step & blasts from Imax 3, with High Step Challenge cardio & weights, alternating between the two. Not for the faint of heart. 70min of brutality. Very cardio demanding. The UB weight segment is TOUGH! And you get really killed with plyo and weight work for the LB. My body is jello right now
Jen
I'm not loving the seasonal temps now. Back to single digits makes me mad . I was loving the tank tops and now I'm back in sweaters and heavy jackets. I'm not a fan of being teased like that...
Have a good day with your mom today. Wait, did you mention you were visiting her?
Colleen
So are you having fun playing with your step? When I got mine, I was doing step almost everyday for 1 month (except on weight days). BTW, don't do that. My feet and knee's were really hurting me, and I had to back off for a few weeks. Not good, not good. Athletic Step is so much fun if you get it! Not very physically demanding like Imax3 and I like the choreo better. I would suggest Body Max (original); very easy choreo, more athletic style. So much step, so little time :D

Have a great day ladies :)

Hi everybody! I would love a monthly thread btw! I use the subscription feature for the threads so that I get instant email popup on my blackberry when you guys post. I love that! Every week though I have to unsubscribe to that thread and subscribe to the new one. Totally not a big deal but I think a monthly thread would be nice. :)

Jen- so your mom lives in Traverse City? I love that town! Mark and I went there a few years ago and it's so nice there! I loved the wineries on Leelenau peninsula. We drove up down that visiting as many as we could!

I'm totally disoriented by the cooler temps, too...although I know that it's much more within the normal range! I've been wearing my summer pj's and last night I was freezing so I had to get up and change into my fleece ones again! We refuse to turn on the heat or the air conditioning right now though. We may eventually have to break down but we're trying to hold out! That's just at home though...at work I have my little space heater on right now!

Natty- I'm loving working with the new step! I also arranged a trade for the Rhythmic step/original Interval Max and I think there's one more on there too. Should be coming by the end of the week! I also managed to get Body Max 2 back in trade! I'm excited about that one because I've been exposed to it before. I wish I had kept it now! The lady I'm trading with for BM2 is in the Middle East though so it may take a few weeks to get to me! I also broke down and straight out purchased Athletic Step and Intensity. I just couldn't stand waiting because I want them all now!:D I'm going to have a ton of step workouts to learn pretty soon!

BTW, Do you guys have Drill Max? I did that one yesterday and it's soooo awesome! I love that one! I hadn't done it since September because I didn't think it would fit in with STS (being a circuit workout with weights). I was so happy to revisit it! My new step worked perfectly with it! ;)

Have a great day ladies!

First off Happy Birthday Nat. Congrats Ellie on you new promotion.

I'm sorry I have been MIA. My sister was in town with her 4 kids, and I had not seen them since last summer. My brother also came up with his girlfriend on Sunday. So my whole weekend was really cooking and cleaning after cooking. I'm exhausted.

Colleen - I tried Imax 3 last May and didn't pull it out again until 2 weeks ago with all of Nats talking I decided to give it a go again. I have atempted it twice now. The first time I did it after another easier workout. So it was just icing on the cake. I did it last Thur as my actual workout and made it to the 6th routine before I was lost. I'll have to try it about 2 more times before I will have the choreography down. It's really confusing. Sorry about Mark's Grandma.

Nat - Hows your back? Mine is bothering me again. I have decided its the Zumba: (
Don't worry about getting caught up in the technical aspect of STS. I got overwhelmed with wanting everything just right and had to give that up just because I cant afford all that stuff.

Jen- When will you find out about your interview that you had on Friday? I hope everything comes together soon for you.

Ellie - I hope Ricardo is back to himself. Did you go shopping yet?

My tummy hurts from to much food this weekend.

Sarah

Hello Friends.
I just got home from Baldwin/Traverse City. My parents live in Charlevoix but my Dad is sub-contracted out in Baldwin and TC is only one hour away driving in GOD's country.
Yes, its colder and I feeling better.
My Mom thinks my vertigo and flu were induced by stress but lingered somewhat to my continue peri-menopause problably moving forward a bit.
The interview Friday went well, the internship host wants to pay me. We meet again tomorrow to determine the next step. I finally heard from the State, they suggested that I move on completely which I will do and contact him.
Colleen-that is SO cool you can do that on your phone. Not sure if my new one can do that or not. Drill Max is awesome.
Sarah-Did you have fun with family? Do they live far away?
Natty-You are awesome to do that one. Not me. Give me the step and kickbox one. The weather here will be in the 70s by Saturday.

BBL

Hi everyone :)

Cold here again :(. Temps said to increase by the end of this week, but not tank top weather :(. There is a saying in Italian "Marzo e pazzo" meaning March is crazy. My aunt says everyone that's born in March is crazy too. I would have to agree with that ;)

Sarah
You must be so tired with family over. Whenever I have family staying, my w/o's always suffer. I feel guilty doing them while I have company.
I'm not striving for perfection with STS; it's not like I'm out to win a body building competition or something (I know eating very clean is essential to optimal results, and frankly I can't do chicken breast, salads and egg whites all day). I do however want to see a little more muscle definition and gain strength. I may need to acquire a little more equipment. I'm going to take a ride over to play it again sports and see what I can get in decent shape, but used.
I'm sorry to hear about your back too. Perhaps the Zumbathon aggravated it. Take it easy and I hope you feel better soon.
Jen
I'm so happy to hear your interview went well! I'm also glad your vertigo is getting better too. Sure, we can start STS in May together. I'm excited :)
Colleen
Now I'm jealous of you!! BM2!!!! Rhythmic Step!!! You are going to love Interval Max. Very athletic-type step choreo but so damn hard! (cardio-wise). My fav Imax I must say. You know what, step can be a little intimidating, but have fun with it. Sometimes the moves are actually really simple but we just try too hard to do them. Also, pick a time to learn the choreo when your mind is not frazzled. I find if I'm too tired or frustrated from the days events, I can't concentrate and learn the moves.

Gotta go get my laundry now!! Have a great day ladies!!

Hope everyone is having a great day! This cold weather helps but I do miss the warmer weather.
May 1st-STS for Natty and I plus whomever else wants to join us. The more the merrier!!

I forgot to mention before but we found out Sunday that Grandma has diverticulosis. Poor thing, she's so miserable but at least it isn't as serious as we were afraid of. She's so incredibly confused right now with the Alzheimer's and being out of her element. Thankfully she's going home today so she will be so much more comfortable and happy at home.

Sarah that sounds like fun having all your family over. I always get exhausted too when I'm entertaining and the house gets to be a huge mess but it's still fun. A few years ago we had Mark's brother, wife and kids stay at our house for 6 weeks when they came to visit from Arizona. The kids loved having their cousins to play with! Unfortunately, now his brother is getting divorced and he's back here but she stayed in Arizona with the kids so we don't know when we'll get to see the boys again.:(

Natty you know what's so funny about Body Max 2? When I originally had the workout I got frustrated with the step so I traded it on VF to a lady in Australia. Now I'm getting it back from a woman in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates! That's a lot of overseas travel for my flighty, flaky mind! I wish I had just kept it to begin with. I've decided to be careful about putting my Cathe's up for trade any more because I always seem to regret it. I had to reacquire Trisets, TurboBarre, Intensity and BM2!

Say Jen, I'll be doing the first week of Meso 2 on Sun and with my alternating weeks of circuits, I'll be close to getting back to Meso 1 by the time you guys start it in May! At any rate I'll be able to chime in about STS while you guys are doing it! Fun stuff! :)

Have a great day everybody!

Colleen.
It's good Grandma is going home. I never heard of that disease but good that's it not as bad as you thought. Stressful situation.
Everyone.
Done with some job hunting and now have two days to work on internship. The guy is now being sweet to me, I think he's a controller. My new friend stopped by my former employer.

Woke up to fraudelent charges on my credit card today after I got some meds for my teeth, I did something to them today so I need to get a dentist but will have problems paying with no card and no insurance. Joy.

Good morning everyone :)

I've decided to do this rotation for April, preparing me for STS in May:
http://cathe.com/forum/f100/dec-10-rotation-279800/

I've been eying this one for a long time. I'm asking SNM if I can use Visa Gift Cards to purchase DVD's, as I received one for my birthday. I want to get Hi-Reps and STS TB for this rotation and do it to a T. I also have a wedding shower Apr 22nd, and this should give me some nice muscles to show off ;)

Jen
So sorry about the fraudulent credit card charges. Did you contact your credit card? They will usually do an investigation and reverse the charges. We've had this done to both our credit/debit cards.
Colleen
I like your idea of alternating STS w/circuits. I love cardio+weights in my workout. Before I found Cathe, that's all I used to do with Jillian, Bob & Jari.
I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope she finds happiness and peace going back home.
I have always wanted to visit Dubai. It looks pretty spectacular. I'm a big fan of travel and so are my cousins, as they have pretty much travelled the world [insert jealousy here]. When Bella gets a bit older, I plan on resuming traveling. I was very isolated as a child. My family was overprotective and I rarely saw outside of Toronto. They were scared of planes, trains, boats, everything actually. It was not until I moved out at 18, that I "broke-free" and enjoyed my life. I don't want my daughter to spend 18 years only exposed to one city and one culture.

BBL girls! Have a great day! :)

I'm so sorry about your credit card being used Jen! I had my purse stolen in the late '90's and someone took my Discover card and bought groceries with it! Weird, huh? I was freaked out and yet I felt sort of bad, like this person needed groceries that bad?? Not a fun feeling though having to cancel all your cards and worry about the possibility of identity theft and how far it can go. Luckily that was all that happened and the card company forgave the charge. I hope yours works out okay.

Natty that Dec '10 rotation looks like a lot of fun! I especially like that first week...I have all those workouts! I'd have to replace the run on the treadmill though. I so wish I could run without killing my knees and ankles. I actually have dreams where I run and I can imagine the feeling and the runner's high and in that dream I love it...the reality is so different though. My body is just not built for it.:( I don't have 4DS either so I'd have to do some switching and substitutes if I were to do it. Maybe someday I'll look into that one!

Yesterday I did a kettlebell workout! It felt so good to swing that bell again! Great DOMS today (no pulled lat muscle like before!). I really love how the two handed swing and overhead swing works my back. The overhead swing looks scary the first time you see it but it's one of my favorite moves. It really works my mid back between the shoulder blades nicely. I have such a hard time isolating that area with traditional weights. Rear delt fly's and scapular retractions just don't do it. I'm always using my neck and traps too much when I do those moves, even though I try not to. The dvd I did was Lauren Brooks Vol. 1, have you guys heard of her? The dvd is ridiculously over priced ($35) and I cringed when I bought it but I was totally enabled by all the raves on VF. I'm glad I have it though. I use it all the time and she has a great tutorial on there to learn correct form which is very helpful. I still won't do a turkish get up though...just feels too awkward!

Today's workout was sort of messed up. I puttered around too much this morning and was running out of time. I decided to try a new 30 minute workout (Toby Massenburg Max 30) I got in a trade. Ten minutes in I was not loving the extreme high impact with very little warm up. I felt a twinge in my ankle and stopped. Bummer. I'm having such a hard time warming up to new instructors these days and keep reaching for my Cathe's instead!

Gotta go. Later girls!

My sister lives in Idaho and I get to see her in the summer time for a couple of camping trips but other than that not much. I was fun and exhausting all at the same time. The kids do love having their cousins around.

I had the identity thing happen once, the only thing that I can remember about it it was right before we were buying a house and I had to contact the FBI. I hope yours gets resolved easily although making all the phone calls and siting on hold drives me crazy more than anything.

I'm loving this last month of STS/LIS and I only have 2 more weeks to go. Yippee.

Colleen I'm sorry to hear about grandma, it's so hard. My husband and I are just getting into those problems. We havent had to deal with sickness and we have never lost anyone we were close to. His father was diagnosed with demensia last year and last week we found out he has Parkinsons also. His mother and us have a long road ahead.

I'm to flighty to trade any of my Cathe's. I know I will regret it down the road. I also have a problem with maybe not liking a workout that much until I have it down pat. My Cathe's are like a collection to me and I want to keep them (I'm greedy).

I have to say I wasn't digging on the Meso 3 upper body either. I think, with that one you have to know almost exactly what weights to use. I did one from Meso 2 yesterday with about 20 min of spinning which killed me. My chest is very sore.

Next week is spring break and I'm concerned about getting my workouts in.

Sarah

Hello Everyone.
The credit card thing got taken care of early this morning, it looks like my primary accounts were not touched. Also, I found a non-prof medical center that will take care of my teeth but it's first come-first serve so I need to be there an hour early to wait all day. It has thrown my work off for my internship with this stuff happening.

Forgot to mention today's w/o...

TBT TB premix (50min)+MMA Boxing, which I just finished.

I LOVE MMA Boxing!! This was my first time. My arms got a great w/o with the punching combo's, and the lower body blasts are fun but deceivingly tougher than I expected. Of all the MMA's, this one is my fav for sure. I hope Cathe comes out with more boxing.

Be back tomorrow to respond to the previous posts.

Have a great night :)

Hello Friends,
Cold and dark day here in MI. This morning, I had to go to a low-income healthcare clinic about my tooth to find out either a root canal or a tooth extraction were my options. The root canal is my choice. Appt made in April then I make an appt for a crown after that which I will do today.
My program set up my mock interview for Ann Arbor so I questioned them about it. The discussion yesterday that nothing ever comes up about issues with it like this or my previous internship. Ready to get back to work.
Good news is that my Vertigo has subsided so working out again is in my future.
Hope you all have a great day!!

Jennifer

Good afternoon everyone :)

So I'm undecided whether or not I should get High Reps & STS TB for my rotation. I have a $50 Visa gift card I can spend here (my aunt told me it was for Cathe stuff only :) ). So please let me know if they are worth getting. I really want them, but if they are so-so w/o's that I can do without, then please be honest. I know Cathe's weight training DVD's are awesome. No complaints so far. Thoughts please!!

I have come to the realization that I certainly need more weights. I have an adjustable dumbbell weight set but the weight increases are "off" to me because the bars weigh 3lbs. So for heavy weights, I can go from 13 lbs (that's 2 x 5lbs + bar weight), and then 18 lbs (add 2 x 2.5lbs). No in between . Plates that are 1.5 lbs are very rare to find. Choosing weight selection is such an art. I envy Cathe (or anyone else) who has every single weight at their finger tips.

Sarah
Glad to see you are breaking in your bike. Did you use an ice pack yet ;) ?
Funny, here in Canada, spring break is mid-March. My former boss used to take a vacation every spring break to be with her 3 kids. I used to tell her "you're SO lucky to be home on vacation" and then she replied "my vacation is work! Work is when I'm home taking care of the kids!!". I never understood that. Now that I have a child, I completely get it.
Colleen
I am with you on the runner's high thing. It looks so exhilarating. Unfortunately I am not a runner. I'm a walker. And that's ok, I accept that.
For future reference, if you do a rotation and it askes for interval run or steady state, you can sub/w Cathe's cardio for it (ha ha I asked her). Steady state is any kickbox, Step Moves, Rhythmic Step ect. Interval run is any Hiit or Imax or CCC.
I have never heard of Lauren Brooks. I live under a rock here in Canada remember?? I've never even heard of the Cardio Coach until his death. So sad. He was only 40 :(. I wonder why the cause of his death has not been released. I doubt he had any medical conditions.
I have to get back into KB again. I just need to get a higher weight. The 10lbs does nothing for me.
Jen
I'm glad to hear the credit card thing was resolved. Still a pain in the a**. Here in Canada, dentists are not covered by universal healthcare. You need insurance or pay up. My cousin has a speculation (ok this is really funny) that the dentists "photo shop" cavities to pretend you have them . He also think they lie about tooth & gum problems. He is quite the comic.
I'm sorry to hear your week is going bad. I hope things get better soon.

Have a great day :)

Hmmm, High Reps or STS TB...I have both and I really like both. I did find I used STS TB more often. I really liked the gym style and you can go heavier. However, since you're getting STS already maybe go for High Reps? I love that one but it is a little longer so I always seem to run out of time and cut out the last bit of ab stuff. She does the warm up set with a barbell which I didn't really like...I think next time I'm going to do that part with dumbells. I'm starting to realize I really only like the barbell for deadlifts and squats/static lunges. I prefer using just the dumbells when I do upper body.

Today's workout was CSS! Thank goodness for the LIS workouts! I really needed low impact after that stupid 10 minutes yesterday from Max 30 (Toby Massenburg's workout). My knees were cracking and achy yesterday from the crazy high impact at a pace that was too fast with very little warm up!

Gotta go! BBL

Natty-Tough decision when I realized I have both. STS TB is a good preview of STS Strength but High Reps is good too. Buying more weights, the higher up in weight you go-the more they cost. Your Aunt is way cool!! I agree with Colleen, I use dumbbells when doing upper body.
About your cousin, I believe in Canada somewhere some dentists did get charged for something like that in the 70s. Worth the Google search to find out for sure. It is good to be an educated patient/consumer know matter what.
Colleen-CSS is a great workout.
Sarah-dont push it on the bike, reduce your tension. Did you get bike shoes? It will be an easier ride if you did. Even gloves too.
Ellie and Nikki-Hello.

Update-For my teeth, my Dad had the same thing done and was told a crown wasn't needed for a root canal. Plus, he told me to get Sensodyne to use instead of Oragel.
Very tired from getting up at 5AM to visit the clinic which is great it exists for those (like me right now) whom cant afford the normal healthcare. Meeting next Tuesday for my internship so she is giving me Friday/Monday for my work, Yahoo!!!

Have a Great Day!!!!

Natty-Fraud with healthcare occurs in the US all the time. Fudging medical records is not cool. Maybe, it happened in the US. There was something about a town in TX with the elderly not too long ago.
