We're In This Together (02/03-02/10)

Sarah, thanks. No need to bow. I have messed up other workouts real bad.
Natty, have fun with your new barbell. MM is a great workout for it. Thanks for the encouragement on support. It is nice. one of my group members attends my church and he has been great.
Nikki, don't know how you do it. kudos to you.
Ellie-great rotation.

On Facebook, Cathe is there as an athlete and friend of mine. I found on YouTube Step N Motion, 1989, and posted it on Cathe's wall.
Time for a nap, workout, clean up then watch football. 2nd half commercials are the ones to watch right after halftime.

Hello ladies :)

Today I started the Feb rotation with Body Max (original. I don't have 2). I forgot how fun and simple that workout is. I got to use my barbell too :D. I felt so strong and empowered. I was able to go really high with chest and shoulders. I can proudly match Cathe in that workout. Bi's & Tri's, I am a complete wimp. No worries, room for improvement.

Question for you all, how the heck do you place your barbell on the back of the neck/shoulder's for squats & lunges??. It really killed. I was not able to keep the bar there, or risk seriously injuring my back. I can go really heavy for legs, but I wimped out . Advice please!!

Sarah
I love walking too! The STS/LIS rotation looked SO GOOD. I would have done it with you guys, but no STS yet :(. Congrats for keeping up with it.

Have a great night everyone :)

For me, I think there's a sweet spot to put the barbell. My barbell is the one she uses in Muscle Max. It is uncomfortable at first.
Congrats for keeping up with Cathe!!! That is huge.

Natty: You stated that you own lots of IKEA. My one purchase I am pondering because I'm having serious withdraws because I havent been there since October. There is a Billy bookcase for 49.99 sale price. Do you own it? It's in black. That was the only piece I don't have picked out already. Thanks.
Plus, I miss my apple cake.

Good morning ladies :)

What a beautiful day out. Going to enjoy it by spending the afternoon at the park. This morning is LaundryMax........ugh 3 loads!! My day looks likes it will be very busy.
DH is working day shift all week, which leaves me to get my workouts in after Bella goes to bed. It's either that or I spend 5 days "sans sweat". I am committed to the Great Booty Rotation (that's my name for it) so I am going to push through even though I am exhausted by 7pm.
Jen
Yes, I have a Billy. Typical Ikea furniture. Sure, get it, it's a great price. With Ikea, you can't go wrong. The food there is very yummy. Here we have this amazing (huge) cinnamon bun. You can smell it through the check-out, it makes your mouth water :p

I have to add, that the purchase of my barbell, has prompted certain family members to "wonder" why I need one, or if I plan to body build. My cousin said, she is going to be "very upset if I start looking like a man". I am a bit frustrated, sad & angry with all the negative comments I am receiving. No one ever tells me how great it is that I am taking care of myself. They just roll their eyes when they see new fitness equipment. Besides my DH, I have 0 family members & friends that workout. You group of ladies are the only ones who understand and appreciate fitness. I am grateful to have found support from all of you, so thank-you.

Have a good day everyone

Laundry Max-Bummer but at least you have clean workout clothes. It's great your DH is working day shift so you can do your "Great Booty Rotation."
Yes, we have the cinnamon rolls at the Canton location. They smell so good that it makes me almost cry when I'm there. Yes, I will purchase the bookcase in person.

Yesterday and last night, I did some closure stuff mainly former employer related. Before church, I dropped off my unused checks and asked them to close out my checking account. Also, I told them I would be through the drive-thru to close out my savings next week and want to do it quietly without alot of questions or staff around.
Last night, I also contacted someone else. In a few days, I will talk more of it or if I get a response good or bad.

Natty- Oh man, that negativity you're getting reminds so much of that thread I told you about on VF! I got the same feedback when I first started STS and it really made me mad. It's so hard to focus on health and strength when people around you are not supportive. Luckily my husband is super supportive of my fitness adventure. His family, though, gave me a lot of crap this Christmas with comments like "You're disappearing!", "You must be obsessed with working out and dieting!". I don't even diet for pete's sake! I'm just trying to be healthy and they made me feel like a freak for it. Mind you, pretty much everyone on my husband's side is overweight or even obese. It's like it's become the new normal for everyone and if you actually get fit your "weird".

There was a thread on VF recently that got into this a little bit. Some said, and I agree, that the general support for fitness and exercise can be very regional. In some places, "everyone is doing it" and the culture of a particular city or state is geared toward health and fitness whereas in other areas (like parts of Wisconsin!) a large percentage of the populace is becoming obese. This creates a new normal that is really damaging for society I think! I guess all we can do is keep on keeping on! Like you said, I find these forums very helpful for support and keeping focus. :D

Started Meso 2 yesterday! Disc 13, got some sore arms and shoulders today! Love it! ;)

Good luck Natty and Ellie on the new rotation! Hope everyone is having a great Monday so far!
Colleen

Not my husband he is proud, but my parents and sister call them my " man muscles". Before I fell out of my groove (this fall while doing STS) my parents were also concerned that I looked like a "cadaver" and that I was over doing it. Now my mom has falling in love with Zumba and if she misses a day she is very pissy about it. I think she now understands that exercise makes you feel good. I'm proud of my "man muscles" (though they aren't even close). This week is rest week. So I will be doing walking, my knees are talking to me and for some reason my quad was twitching the last 2 nights ever since AB.

Nat - My barbell is the bent kind (I don't know the name of it) I just hoist it up and over the shoulders and set it on the lower trap muscles. I did 55 for STS Legs and after 3 trisets I couldn't hoist anymore for fear I would pull a muscle.

Sarah

STS ON SALE!!

OMG THE DOWNLOADS ARE $149.00!!! I AM TEMPTED!!! BUT I DON'T HAVE ALL THE EQUIPMENT......CAN I DO IT ANYWAY????? WHAT DO I DO???!!! I MIGHT HAVE TO "HIDE" THIS PURCHASE SOMEHOW :( ;)

Ok, off to the park now........

Natty. The negative comments reflect on them and not you. I would not listen to them at all or change the subject. For them, it more than likely, is guilt for not taking care of themselves. (Sorry, I just re-read all the comments). My family has always been supportive but my Dad is a doc so it comes with the program. In the 80s, my Mom was doing Step Reebok.
For STS, if that's the cheapest you have seen it. Consider it seriously. Are there "Play it again Sports" or consignment shops geared for sports near you? You can find the barre if you need one maybe on Ebay for sure on Amazon.
Closure is the word for me this week.

:D Go for it Natty! I don't have all the equipment either and I'm having fun with it. I think STS is one of those things you can adjust and grow with. I know the program is designed a certain way but I really feel I'm getting a lot of benefit with it regardless. I have to go lighter on some exercises due to not having a turbo tower or squat rack and I use rubber tubing over the door instead of real pull ups (they show one of the girls doing that while they do pull ups). I hope to have the tower though for my next round of STS so I can do a real pull up in the future! ;) One thing I've noticed, since you mentioned having a hard time putting the barbell on your back for squats and lunges, is that she (at least so far in the program) uses heavy dumbells for the squats and lunges instead of the barbell. When I do use it for those exercises (with other workouts) there is a sweet spot on the soft tissue of the traps I can do it with but I don't go really heavy for safety.

Sarah- that's so funny what you said about Cathe kicking your husbands butt:p! I think my husband is getting tempted to start working out with me...he is pretty impressed with Cathe and what he sees me doing. He's talking about turning the downstairs basement area in to a workout area for both of us! We already have a spot for the elliptical picked out! :D

Colleen, I have read about your luck with the eliptical and its an awesome brand. I have been trying to find luck of my own with a spin bike on Craigs List. I have a treadmill and I use it once a week usually. It doesn't go up and down anymore and it's really loud so I can only use it if the whole house is awake or gone. I figure it's stuck on about a 5% incline which is nice because when I go outside it seems super easy to jog. I want a spin bike because I think I can do it regardless if the kids are sleeping. However, the sore crotch makes me a bit nervous. I'd like to try a class out but they don't offer any classes in my podunk town.

Sarah

Tonight's workout is Step Blast. Kinda tricky but I like it :)

Jen
I hope everything goes well with your closure. And thank you about making me feel better with regards to all the negativity going on in my life (heath/fitness related). I do agree that's it's them, not me, but still they make me feel like a freak sometimes. Can you believe I have to "lie" about working out? Everyone gives me slack for it :( Oh well they can all pretty much kiss my a**.
Colleen
I may get STS. It IS an incredible price. I agree, it's definitely a workout I can grow with. You make me feel better about not having all the equipment too. Something to think about......I have until Sunday.
Sarah
"Man muscles" are sexy! Good for you! I understand about the "out of groove thing", don't feel bad. It's so easy to get there and hard to get out. Sometimes life and the pressures and stress that go along with it, really takes it's toll. And what better way to kick life's butt than with STS right? BTW, I never did end up getting that spin bike :( so don't feel bad because I really want one too.

Have a good night ladies

Natty-They make you think like a freak. Hmm. You have the power to turn this one upside down so they feel like a freak. Jealousies and insecurites are things that others pay for. STS is worth the money. I didn't use much of the big stuff till Meso 3 and I lost 20 pounds from STS alone and no cardio. My new estimated start time to do it again is now May 1st.
My closure is going very well. My final one will be on Valentines Day.
Nikki-Where are you? Are you OK??

Forgot to mention, MMA: Fusion, was a total bomb today. Waste of time.
On Thursday, I start the High Rep/Intensity series then into LIS.

Good morning :)

Today on the rotation is 40/20.........but I am not doing it. I have been doing so much high impact w/o's on my step lately and my knee's are starting to ache. Not good. So I will sub with Pyramid or Supreme 90-Day Tabata Inferno which is similar to Hiit.

Jen
Don't feel bad about bombing Fusion. Some days are better than others I find. There's always another day and another try :)

Have a good one ladies :)

Did you guys see the preorder for Cathe's 2 new ones? I already preordered!:p I'm totally psyched! I also got the Gym style legs and Low Max to get the free shipping. I wouldn't normally get Low Max due to choreography challenges but I was a little enabled by a thread on here that mentioned a premix with just the "blasts" that are pretty basic I guess. I may try that as an add on to Trisets lower body like somebody had mentioned in that thread. I thought about Athletic step but Low Max was just a few dollars cheaper. Maybe in the future. I'm thinking I may have to get the cardio club step someday and just try the more complicated step on the 4 inch platform. Maybe that will make it easier for me. I just have my trusty old Reebok step from college but that doesn't go any lower than 6 inches.

Natty- definitely listen to those knees! Like you saw on that thread with the knee problems I've had issues with that and I am careful to keep high impact to no more than 2 times a week. Of course, now that I have my rebounder I can take a lot of the moves to that which helps even more. Do you have puzzle mats? I really wish I had used one earlier. I got these really thick, shock absorbent ones (not thin, cheaper ones) and it helped tremendously. I actually bought two sets and duct taped them together to give me a bigger workout area.
Sarah- Good luck finding a spin bike! I got totally lucky. Have you checked Craig's list? Fortunately for those of us who do actually work out, lots of people buy stuff they never use then sell them pretty cheap! :D Sometimes it just takes patience to find it.

Jen-Good luck with your closure too! New chapter in life...are you nervous or excited? Maybe both?;)

Ellie- I heard on the news that Europe's getting the worst winter in 50 years! Hope everything is going well for you!

Nikki- Hope your doing well too!

Hope you guys are all having a great day!

Holy Moly, just when I was asking if Cathe comes out with new workouts every year!! Hells ya, I am pre-ordering that baby. Now I have to figure out what DVD's to buy. OMG I am so psyched for this!!!
Low Max looks great Colleen. I have Hardcore Extreme which features section of Low Max and I really love the step combo's. I may have to invest in puzzle mats, you are right. With regards to the Cardio Club Step, I got a great deal on Ebay + risers for $80. It goes up to the full 12inch (so 4 sets). Brand new too, I jumped when I saw it. One of the best fitness equipment I ever purchased. I am so glad I am a "stepper" now. Once you do several of Cathe's step, you just start to "get it" even if you suck (like me). Now I can do complex choreo and I am so happy I never gave up. It is very good for your brain too.

TTYL everyone!!

I am so happy right now!!!!

Ugh, I just may have to stop going on videofitness forum. I don't know why I do anymore. Do you guys ever go on there? It's like a Cathe hater fest at times. Someone posted about her new presale and it's post after post of people ripping on her. The negativity is overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes the threads are good and I enjoy it but I swear I'm just sick of all the whining on that site!

Hey Colleen,

I am just waiting here to see what more Cathe has to say :)

I don't go on that site and I don't intend to. I hate hearing about stuff like that.......if you don't like her then don't buy her stuff. It's that simple. I love Cathe and that's all that matters to me. But to each his own that's what I always say. One man's junk is another man's treasure.
